Correct me if i am wrong but the boxster S calipers i thought bolted striaght up without any modification - am i right in thinking that that link suggests the pad rests have to be filed down 1 mm then, i thought this was only the case on the NON boxster S caliper?
Cheers
David
Those calipers are design to work with 323x32mm rotors (Boxters and 996 front rotors)
Why if you are using a 323x30 mm rotor, 2mm thinner than the Porsche one, do you need to take 2mm of the pins (1mm per side)?
that was my point I thought that was the case on the standard 986/boxster caliper to squeeze a 30mm thick disc into a space normally reserved for a 28mm. The boxster S caliper normally takes a 32mm wide disc so no work needs to be done, simple bolt up with the appropriate bracketry.
Calipers seem to be going for around £300-350 a pair used, brackets i believe are around £80 a pair, textar pads around £40 and discs i think are around £40 each.
Could be wrong, thats just from memory

Greg - I liked that write up - it is one of the better ones I've seen, and with your permission I would like to include it on S2 Central. Firstly as a link to the fourtitude site, and then as part of my site. OK ? You will be credited of course for services to the sanity of S2 owners around the world.
Two more Q's
Were any spacers and such required or did the 996 calipers mount straight onto the RS2 caliper carriers ?
Out of interest - What is the Porsche or Brembo part for the 996 calipers ?
Paul
Paul,
You are more than welcome to use the information. In fact, later when you make the material part of you site, I hope you will host the pictures. I tried to get Fourtitude to host the pic, but alas they won't do that. If people change ISPs the pictures are lost. Then you start all over again. Don't need credit as long as it helps answer a few questions. I got most of the information from this forum anyway. I just took pictures while doing the fit up, and put it together.
No spacers are required for using the 996(black)/BoxsterS(red) calipers. Using the RS2 carriers, everything was a bolt up.
I will have to get back to you on the part number. I am at work and the Porsche family album is at home.

David/Spanish,
You are not wrong. The problem is this. Even thought the caliper, carrier, and the A8 rotor are all bolt ups and fit well, the caliper is not centered on the rotor. If I remember correctly, the caliper sits slightly outboard of the center line of the rotor, or closer to the inboard pins. These actually are the ones that should be filed.
I will use an anology to give the reason why I suggested filing off all the pins. The UrS guys who use the same brakes, are always discussing what is the proper way to mount the calipers, with the smaller pistion coming before the larger piston or visversa. They are always debating this. Fortunately, these calipers bolt on the same way on our coupes as they do on the Porsches. The UrS group has to flip the pistons and the cross tube.
By the way, small piston comes first. But, this discussion is always coming up on the UrS forum and sites.
Well, if I mentioned only filing down only one pair of pad pins, it would always be discussed about whether it was the inboard or outboard set of pins. So I said, file down all four. What I did, was measure all the pins for height. Subtracted 1 mm from the longest pin, filed down the longest pin 1 mm, and then matched the other pins to it.

so how much would the boxter S calipers-rs2 brackets-brakepads-S8/A8 323mmdisks-and brake lines set you back??
As brought up above, I bought the Calipers from LA Porsche Dismantlers. I got a deal on the rotors, and the carriers were new. I made the RS2 hardlines from a VW 400mm hardline, and bent it to fit. The Calipers were $200 each, (for the black, reds[BoxsterS] would have been $300ea), the carriers were $275 from Europrice, the rotors were $200(deal), and the brake lines were $6 each. Bolts and other hardware say $20.
So the total for me was, $907. I think that was a savings of about $400 off the cheapest aftermarket brake kit I could find. That 400 allowed me to buy the 5X112 hubs I needed to do this upgrade.
Hope this helps.
Greg
They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.
Will Brembo callipers fit or do they have to be specific Porsche? There's a few sets on Ebay with a full setup off a Seat Leon, some Mitsubishi evo 6... Might be cheaper than something with the 'P' word on!
