I mean do you have the cover with sunroof switch, is it like mine on the picture?

Set multimeter to DC voltage. One end to ground, and start probing one by one the four wires. Make a note which on has 12V after you open the door. Then find out which one has 12V when you turn on ignition. One should have permanent 12V for interior light and one should always be 0V, that one is ground.

To make sure the 0V is really ground, put one end to that wire, and other end to center contact in cigarette lighter, it should read 12V now.

Connect the single pin black plug with other plug black. And white plug connects with a white plug on the switch.
You said original wiring has been cut and replaced with 4 new wires, but in your pictures i can see all the original wiring. 12V, Ground and interior light plug. Only thing I cant see is the switch.
Take a picture of the sunroof switch and its wires.

The four wires with block connectors attatched in pic 4 were originaly soldered to the two wires from the black plug and two wires from the motor then they were cut to remove the whole cartridge from the car

Interesting. Why has someone added 4 extra wires, if all the original wires are present.
When the ignition is on. Is there 12V between the single wire black and white plug?

Does your car have electric windows and is the big windows relay present. Number 363 or 343?
And if you check the relay, is the single wire green plug and ground wire with crimped ring terminal there and connected?

Have you got a mixture of preselect and simple switch parts maybe?

Don't think so. Then there would be thick red wire for 12V and thin wires for speed signal and ignition signal.

Still scratching my head on this one. looks like at some point a new cable has been introduced and spliced into the black plug and motor wires, can only think maybe there was a previous problem with wiring and this is a new source of power last thing I want to do is guess and burn out the motor

Could it be an aftermarket alarm "full closure" wire?
Clutching at straws for you here mate.. I had a look at my coupe wiring but I don't think it's any use to you as mine has the preselect motor and panel.

So not had chance to use multimeter yet but I'm thinking the two green and two black with plugs are pos/neg feeds to go to the red,yellow/black from the black plug and the others from the motor but which way is the 20,000,000 dollar question
