Idle switch???? seems unrelated to me, although it would be worth it to clean it with some carb cleaner...

I mean idle switch inside the throttle pot. You have to be able to hear it clicking when you close the throttle body by hand, very close to the fully closed position. If you don't, then it's bad.

              Martin,

very early on in my S2 ownership I had a problem that sounds very much like your original post on this thread.

Turned out to be a loose earth from the coil packs to the head.

              just a thought...

well at the moment its running ok, with the occasional splutter every 10miles or so of driving, so it may be tricky to pinpoint the source at the moment
                cheers for the tips
the earths on the inlet manifold are ok, the throttle switch clicks as it should. are there any other earthing points to check?

Well, I cleaned my MAF today - the thing was filthy! Also, the turbo-side screen was, well I can only describe it as half-melted. That can't have helped the airflow?
Anyway, Soaked in IPA and removed the turbo-side screen, let's see if it makes any difference...

Martin, did jou check the little ventil that regulates the wastegate and that is behind the right (right side) headlight and it is a size of a matchbox? Mine had a similar problem a while ago. Just spraying inside that ventil with a temperature rsistant grease solved it. I dont know the precise name of that gizmo but it is small and black wit one side covered with a metal plate and has three inlets.

Gabor, i did change this (WGFV) about 8 months ago, i have read that it can stick sometimes due to vapour from the breather system clogging it up, especially on cars running higher boost, still havent fitted my catch tank suppose it wont hurt giving it a clean
the last few days its been running ok, but today its worse than ever:mad:
                      thanks for the suggestion.
