They said they were willing to come out and look at the block but it would cost a lot for one of their engineers time - they strongly advised me to remove the block just for honing - this was before I realised it was scored - I feel confident in taking it to them on Monday to get checked out - they had ARP head studs, rod studs, JE pistons on their shelf - I could tell they know their stuff. It's just getting scarey with new rods, pistons, etc - but might as well bite the bullet now and not regret it 2 months down the line.

I will be removing the block tomorrow - not looking forward to that - I think it's time to get the winch hung from the rafters!

        Doug,

I'll hold fire with the piston rings, give me a shout if you still need them.

Yes Steve - I don't think I'll need those rings now.

            Doug,

When you get your car back together, take some valium before you start it for the first time The noise new lifters make and the oil smoke from the honed bores is a little disturbing for the first few mins.. Good luck with it. You are definately doing the right thing by getting the job done properly while it's in bits. Do you think you'll be at Greg's meet?

            cheers
            Steve

              Cheers,

              Mark.

Mark - new clutch - I need one I can drop. New pistons, new rods, new rings, new bearings, a thousand new bolts and seals.

Here's the damaged bores - It looks bad. The top outside edges of 2 pistons are damaged. I think the engine has had a turbo compressor go through it in the past.

And here is the block just lifted out the car - I lifted it out (on my own!) on to axle stands - I would have done an injury lifting it out onto the floor or onto a bench.

And taking everything out of the block so I have a bare block.

And the clutch - I don't have a clue what these should look like since I've never had an engine apart before this car. I might as well repalce it while it's out. What's a good one?

Those bores don't look so bad. Do you have pictures of the pistons. Are there visible craters? If yes, your engine has definetly knocked.

                                Doug,

will you be getting a bigger downpipe at same time? at least it will be easy to fit with the engine out

P.S. if you want a list of bits i bought when i did mine i will make a copy for you.
