if the dealer hadn't said it would take so long I might have waited but no, I had to go with a 3rd party, get 3 distributors, send them all back and end up taking longer anyway.
ah well. it's running now and that's the main thing.

(you should have seen the grin on my mush as I took it a wee spin down the dual carriageway near the house to make sure... erm.. it was all working properly. )

Still a bit concerned about whether your dizzy marks are lined up though, it needs to be spot on. Randomly moving it by 5deg is a bit of a worry.. Mine was off by about 3 degrees, it would start and run ok but at full boost the ECU was getting confused by the wrong arrival of the TDC pulse, mistakenly sensing knock and chucking a whole bunch of fuel in giving a cloud of smoke and unburnt fuel out the back. Minea diagnosed the dizzy as being slightly misaligned and he was spot on.

at least all 4 wheels are moving.
How can I make sure it's absolutely spot on, given that there's no mark to line up the body with the engine block?

The line on the bit that rotates has to line up with the notch in the dizzy casing, I didn't realise you hadn't understood this. There's pics in this thread somewhere.

no, I get that bit. rotor arm has to face the sensor, lining up with the lead going to cylinder 1. But when you insert the dizzy into the engine it spins. there's no line to indicate where the dizzy should sit in relation to the engine. I would have thought that it didn't matter since only the gear protrudes into the engine. In that case the only difference spinning the dizzy would have is to slightly adjust the position of the rotor arm to the dizzy body. erm.. that was almost thinking out loud.
So when I put the dizzy in and the gear engaged it must have turned the spindle a fraction - hence why i was a few degrees out. ahhhh

Yes your right, it doesnt matter, the dizzy body doesnt have to sit at a certain position to the block, it can sit at any position as long as those marks in the pic above align at tdc. Its running anyway, well done.
