Contact cleaner spray with protective oil from your favourite electronics shop . First clean with some soft cloth (no sandpaper or screwdriver there!), spray. Connect/disconnect several times, clean again, spray, leave and forget .

My human carrier was standing for 1.5 years before I've bought it, so there was entire swarm of electrical gremlins under the bonnet (playing tricks with the wiring ). After such procedure there was no need to repeat such procedure for anything under bonnet. With an exception of electric window switches in the door handle.

    I use this one:

I had this too, drove me crazy.. The very best contact cleaner for all your plugs and sockets is Caig DeOxit, fantastic, even makes your headlights brighter You can find it on ebay in a spray can, I also have a marker type pen thing with it in

Right cleaned all the contacts, inc hall sender, tps and MAF. Cleaned the MAF completely and refitted everything once dry......

        AND it's still happening.

hopefully reset the ecu by pulling all the fuses at the front of the fusebox and even diconected the battery for 30mins.....

Nip zip nada. Had the dizzy cap off checked and cleaned that. marks are bang on center of the prongs so that is all good......

        ANy clues.....

Is it the MAF???? How can you test it.
BTW I don't have vagcom and it is not connected in the car (been there tried that couldn't get a connection....)

        Cheers

long shot I know, but check the wiring and condition of the connections toi the ECU coolant temp sensor in the rear of the block, the same side as the airbox, might be worth a quick look....

It has got a newish loom in that has been fully repaired and continuity tested for a vey long while to ensure all is correct. So can't see it being the wiring.....

Cheers for that tgriff more questions than answers though so get your brains ticking lads and lasses.....
                Right...

Swapped MAf over with a new one (ala tgriff) and the car seemed to be more hesitant (I did take the neg off teh battery for 10 mins while I was swapping over to reset the ecu).

Idle was more stable and witht the ISV plugged in it was between 500 and 1K rpm instead of 500 to 1500RPM....

On a quick drive teh car popped fuel in teh exhaust alot more with a bit of throttle and was alot more hesitant only hitting about 5psi of boost, not a boost leak as it would not be this variable would it... Pipes are all samco and fixed tight with decent clamps.

Putting the new MAF on has thrown up teh question of reseting the throttle body to sort teh idle out but still no clue on the boost......

                Thoughts please girls and boys...

Had the same prob. on two S2's. troubled me for weeks. I can't explain why. Airbox on, there. cone on. gone. strange.

give the jubilee on the discharge side of compressor, on the outlet a little nip. it worked for me.

you can usually see it from underneath. if its been playing up you might see black spatter up the side of the outlet.

All those have really good hose clamps on (notice clamps not juby clips) as I want ed to make sure that it was all very tight so I didn't have to take it apart again, also I don't think I will see much blowing from there due to having a catch tank to remove all that fromt eh flow..... Will have a nip under there wil a spanner though just to make sure nothing has moved or come loose.......

REally bugging me, could it be to do witht eh throttle pot????

Or could it be the 4 pin temp sender as per S2central's thread???? The water temp guage in the car does what it likes and is on for a bit then off...... Could it be taht little beauty??

bit of an agressive thread title probably putting people off this thread fella...

you could try soapy water onto pipes to see if any bubbles start blowing. Just my 2 cents.

The MFTS does do some strange stuff indeed,.... I changed mine and sorted some running problems, its around 40 quid or so, and if its old, and the temo gauge is playing around, it mUST be worth changing it to see if it cures the running and temp display problems...
Sorry can't suggest any more, been thini\king hard though....
Are you sure there are no leaks in the vacuum pipes?

aaah, well said. worth a look at that. I had a boost leak under my rear seat. The non return valve for the diff. lock was lettin by.

Do you have any trouble with the diff. lock engaging when on boost?

if not as mentioned above check the hoses anyway.
