    hiya mate,
i live in barrow, it's in cumbria, a local garage tried to read fault codes but couldn't get anything from it said that it was really slow.

When you've done that it's probably worth doing a pressure test on all the boost hoses.

These cars really need to be cared for by their owners, with the help of this forum of course.
So I would get it back asap, or this car could end up costing you a lot of money.

hmmm it's starting to look that way. when i originally got the car it didn't boost properly the ecu was found to be faultly and replaced, when i went to pick the car up after bring told it was ready i drove it and this misfiring fault happened that wasn't there before. the lad at the garage is doing everything he can to fix it but i thought this forum would be a good place to get ideas that might be over looked.

Discribe this missfire, is it like an engine cut out, or just like a spark plug playing up.
give us a bit more to go on.

i'd have said its more like a spark plug playing up than the engine cutting out, i've spoken to the mechanic today and he has borrowed an older code reader, it came up with loads of different faults probably due to items being disconnected and re-connected, but the one that keeps coming up is the throttle petensiometer, whether this would cause the fault i don't know.

TPS most certainly caused a lot of problems on my 3b,such as misfire and lean running causing the turbo to glow red hot. Changed the hole throttle body with a second hand one for 50quid, much cheaper than a new one at way over a 100, this fixed the problem

did you have the same misfire past 3500 revs, i tried to get a price for a new tps and was told there now obselete so if this is the problem then a second hand is my only option. i hope it is though at least then it will be back on the road.

My misfire was intermittent but it was cured by the replacement throttle body with OE tps attached . try Sal on this forum he may have one.
It is possible to test the TPS with a multi meter, or you can open the bonnet, get your ear as close to the tps as you can, and open the throttle by hand, you should hear it click,if not its fucced. Do not have the engine running for this procedure.
                      Good luck.

the mechanic at the garage says hes sorted the tps problem the only one that comes up now is engine speed sensor, said that maybe because of all the fault codes that were in there the ecu may have gone into a limp mode and that could explain why you cant get any power out of it. Does this sound right to you.

i think i am getting somewhere with this misfire, now the only fault code that comes up is the speed sensor on the gearbox, does anyone know if this will this fault cause a misfire past 4000 revs. any advice is appreciated

i don't know what else it could be the mechanic says that it could cause the fault but i thought i'd check on here first seeing as how hes replaced afew bits that untill now haven't made a ***** of difference, if it was someting else like say a coil pack or maf wouldn't it bring up a fault code for these. i would have thought that whatever is causing the misfire would show up on a code reader.

4k misfire could be the air temp sender.
