    misfiring s2

    hiya,
i have a problem with my 3b engined s2 in that once you get past 3500 revs it will start to misfire, up to 3500 revs it pulls fine. it's had new plugs, leads, rotar arm and dizzy but it didn't make any difference all the boost hoses are ok to.
i was wondering if anyone had any ideas or knew of any commen faults.
    cheers chris

    Coilpack? Has that been changed?

I would make sure that the new rotor tip for the dizzy is the thin one which is the correct one.

check the lead going from the dizzy to the coil pack as mine was trapped between the strut brace and the brake pipes and meant anything apart from light throttle got me alot of pop's and some nice flames.

cheers lads, i've got a coil pack on order is it possible that the maf could be faulty, i am trying to narrow it down so i don't waste money i've checked the leads arent trapped against anything. This is my first s2 i had a 90 2.3 20v before this, what sort of common problems do they suffer from, someone said they are prone to internal water leaks. Also what would be the best way to go about upgrading to get more bhp, av already got a s/s scorpion system with de-cat pipes and induction kit

A new coil pack will not go amiss, they take a lot of stick. It is possible that the MAF is at fault, can you try another one that is know to be good? That way you could eliminate it and save needless expense.

If you want more power then either get an RS2 airbox or modify an ABY one, the search function should help you find out how to do this. Then get a chip set off MRC.

Did you replace with new plug leads or used ones? does it sound like a machine gun when it misfires?

I would first plug the car into vag.com and see what it says......Coilpack failing under load is common cause of misfiring

i tried to have the codes read but the lad at the garage struggled said it was because of the age and couldn't get anything from it, it's a definate misfire it's more of a jerky stutter than a steady misfire, i've had the overboost protection cut in before and that was different from what i am getting now everything thats been replaced is new.
