NO need for reduced compression on a 400bhp machine IME... Best left to monsters making much more power in the high rpms and where driveability down low is less important.

what alternatives would you suggest for pistons. I like that the Mahle ones dont slap but they are very expensive to get them at custom sizes.
Well I use JE with no problems with slapping, slightly lesser clearance then quoted and good running in period. The Mahle are good and I know they will take in excess of 600BHP.

The problem with JE is now the price as the weak pound makes them less attractive

Fair nuff - see that now Jamo, but was just concerned about previous comments on a ~400bhp setup.

the reason i skimmed the piston and not used a thicker gasket were for 3 reasons.

            1. i needed the pistons cleaning up somewhat.
            2. i had them balanced and weightmatched with the rods.
            3. wanted to add a couple of degress up the rpm range with higher boost.

it made the engine a little smoother as i hoped.

if we all did the same this would be the ford rs owners club

What rods and metal gasket do you suggest for 500hp?
                Some links?

Best to search the forum - lots of previous threads on this subject... Many choices of rods especially.
