what i am afraid of is the possibility of removing this one and then not being able to properly bolt the other one in to tighten it.

Looks like the aux water pump is in the way when trying to reach it from the back.

From memory the only angle you can get a spanner on it is from the rear, would defo help with the rad out the way. I'm sure its possible without though, on an ABY / ADU with the slimline rad shroud.

I changed the lower sensor recently and pulled the radiator to do it. To get the fan off you need to lift the radiator to get at the bolts, so at that point i just dumped the coolant into a bucket and removed the radiator, made life much easier. It might be possible to change the upper sensor by lifting the PAS pump up and reaching in, a double joined arm would be needed.

You need to have a really flexible hand.

How is the sender best accessible? Do you have to remove the radiator, or his the fan? Best from the top, or bottom?

Had a look today and its not the easiest thing from the top

In relation to gauge accuracy i watched my 7A slowly drop from 2bar down to 1.5bar over a few years, then the sensor went faulty and wouldn't register anything below 1.5bar. Fitted a second hand sensor and it went back to 2bar. Basically take the pressure reading with a pinch of salt. Idle speed also effects your reading, a hundred rpms will make all the difference.

If anyone is interested i opened one up to see how they work --> http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...t=oil+pressure

Just to make you all feel a bit better, went on a trip 2 weeks ago with amongst the cars a new 997.2 GT3.... oilpressure at warm idle = 1 bar

IMHO you should also change cranks main bearings not only rod bearings. And I don't think that lifters could cause oil pressure dropdowns.

i cleaned the contacts and cannot say i saw any difference

in my case, my oil pressure @ 75C coolant temperature is 2.5bar on idle and at 81C is 1.5 to 1.8bar. Then if the car stays at 83-85C when the coolant fans kick in, it will go to 1.3bar and later on to even 1.1bar.

all lifters are new on my engine, so i still believe its normal. I have >2bar from 1500rpm anyway

i will be changing the sender once the break in of the engine is complete and put in a new filter and just wont worry about it.

now I came from "garage".. well I change conecting rod bearings , and it is still 1 bar..

now I think a little bit .. I saw that after half of minute after cold start oil pressure start to drop on 4.5bar , after 30 second they are on 4 bar, and after 3minute they are on hot idle and have 1bar.

so oil pressure start to drop very quickly . oil and water are still "cold" . which part of engine are hot in this first 30 second?
    the cilinder head.. are they?
which part of cilinder head restrict the oil? could that be a hydro lifters? YES..
I have the old hydro lifters , they have 20 years..
have in basement 40 almost new hidro lifters, but one of them make a bad (tiking) sound.
tomorrow I will change all 20 and find out what is going on.. maybe it will help..
    what do you think?

Tomorrow I'll mesure oil pressure with mechanical gauge for a test and will post up results.
However, mine car readings on VDO are +/- OK (2bar@hot idle, 4bar@2000rpm and 4.5 @ ~4000rpm).

i have just ordered the sender and pressure switch to replace in the near future. i cannot have yet another gauge staying there. if i can change that and still have the same reading, ill get a mechanical reading sorted and judge by the difference in the readings

I didn't try to messured with mechanical gauge , I change 3 sensors for oil pressure , and I also use sensor from s6 aan which have on idle 1.8bar.
and in every case it is 1 bar at idle.

now I just buy new sputter bearings for connecting rod , and now I go to change them. they are 3 years old , but I must see how they look and change it with new one.
will post at evning when I find out how they look..
    wish me a luck
