Tis indeed a peg in the flywheel that G4 detects. Theres another peg for G28 also...

The hall sender is in the dizzy and if the ECU don't get proper hall signal at proper moment the engine wont get ignition nor fuel.

IIRC You'll need a new dizzy or one of these as the current one is plastic and has prob sheared.

If it isnt spinning freely then it is ok, its probably the hall sender, which i think will need a new dizzy, they come with a metal gear now.

Do you mean isnt spinning when cranking the engine or when you try to turn the rotor arm by hand??

The workshop manuals say the inlet manifold must be removed but it can be done without doing that, but you'll have a lot less skin on your hands,
take all the leads off, then wriggle the cap off then get at the bolt at the dizzy base, but if your anti tamper bracket is still on (a plate rivited over the bolt) it will be a lot harder,
saying that, removing the manifold is pretty straight forward. just leave everything attatached to it though and tie it to the underside of the bonnet with out the way.

i'd take the cam cover also and get out the remnants of the old gear, and change the oil

Hah! You RHD guys must have plenty of space there, not even tight!

You can also buy an original dizzy gear if you wish. It's from SPQ engine code KW. No idea in replacing the whole dizzy because of the gear. (actually I think few of you here have some new part fetish, replace replace replace, even if not necessary.. clueless)

When installing, turn the engine to the 0-mark and the allign the rotor so that it points to the groove on dizzy base.

And when your cam belt renewal time comes, replace the chain between the cams. It loosens over time and adds vibrations to the inlet cam that drives the dizzy, this causes the gears to break.

Yep gear has sheared BTDT, complete new dizzy is about £100 from the dealers, includes new rotor arm and cap. I had this happen to me. Take the Inlet manifold off, as that tamper proof tap will be impossible to get off otherwise.
