    S2 ABY Wont start

    Hi all

I'm new to this forum currently having muliple problems with my S2, mainly that it cranks but doesnt start

Initially I thought ECU, after speaking to a really helpful guy named James we came to the conclusion that the motronik ecus were bullet proof so to speak and it could well be the crank position sensor that needs replacing

I'm on my way to purchase a CPS sensor tomorrow, however when I crank it immediatly blows the lambda heating fuse #25 and with the lambda disconnected it doesn't. I'm under the impression that the car would still start if the lambda was disconnected? Another point I can note is that I can't hear the fuel pump prime, however I checked the fuel relay/fuse no problems there, I've read somewhere that the CPS sensor sends signal to ecu to supply fuel? Am I right in thinking so?

The only other problem I have is that the fan stays on constantly and relay gets quite hot, I'm thinking this is just the relay

Any help would be much appreciated and welcome, I'm pulling my hair out with the S2 just sitting there..

    Many thanks

Predominantly I just want to get the car started, being pessimistic I'm thinking it still not going to start once I've put in the new cps sensor, what should I move on to if it turns out as such?

        Hi roadkill

At the moment I'm just going on hear say TBH does the s2 support vagcom? Where is the port located, I read somewhere that even with the car not started the hall sender unit flags up on diagnostics regardless of wether the unit itself is faulty or not?

I was getting a spark, the more I'm reading forums the more I'm thinking about my engine which Is ATM in pieces in my garage have I just stripped away a perfectly good hall sender/cps unit is what I'm asking myself?!

Hi all, I decided to give the current CPS another go, it's back In all together I have checked the spark and it's very weak.. Lambda sensor I have left disconnected Any ideas anyone is the finger still pointing at the the cps? I have ordered 0bd2 to 1 adaptor and fingers crossed will be able to get it on vagcom.. Checked spark plugs 2x are dry 2x oily and smell of petrol..

Check the crank position at the flywheel, the mark on the bottom pulley is not reliable. There's a window in the bell housing, you're looking for a 0 (zero) mark.

Bumper, if you did need to remove it, comes off with 2 (or 3?) screws each side in the wheel arch (could be seized, soak with plus-gas or wd40..) and a bolt each side (going outwards) behind the fog lights. Need to take headlights, indies, and fogs out.

Easy once you've done it the first time. I'm not actually sure on an S2 bumper anymore but on RS2 it's easiest to take the fogs and indicators out and theres two bolts easy to access, then take the screws out from the cowlings under the wheel arch and pull it forward. I think on the S2 it's just a case of taking the grills out (?) Or you may get to them going in from the top, albeit a little more awkward..

Oh yeah if you still have it - undertray off too

Great I'm going to give the bottom crank pulley a look tomorrow.. Gone dark now and I'm soaked through again I really appreciate your help guys..

I really dont want to give up in her.. One other thing The fact that I've disconnected the lambda should still allow the car to start right?

                          Cheers again
