On my setup some injectors and an improved EM would be worthwhile.

On a focus rs 5 pot, these compressors run 1.4 bar in the midrange and 1.1 bar top end on a 2.5. That's 300 HP. A mapped one with injectors, intercooler, exhaust etc run 1.75 bar midrange holding 1.5 bar to redline. That's around 400hp
My mate has,a rs focus so looked into it. Not sure how a rs turbine compares to a s2 unit. S2 may not flow so well. Maybe a better power setup would be a rs2 turbo with this compressor. Then 400 HP at a push sounds about right. Defo a honest 370 HP with less lag than a rs2 turbo.Comment

Due to a slight change in plans, I'll be selling my turbo on pretty soon. It'll be as new and fully checked by Hoffer's turbo builder. Only run 200 miles and the top spec 7000 hybrid that he does with the billet compressor. Happy to take PMs about it.
Edit:- Now sold.Last edited by Rusty; 21 December 2011, 08:24.Cheers'en, AndyC

Turbo
Hi Andy,
I'm interested in the thread about the modified kkk24 7000 turbo that you have.
Basically i have an ABY that is fast becoming an RS2. It will have: -
- RS2 airbox
- RS2 MAF
- RS2 injectors
- RS2 Wagner Evo EM (already on)
- RS2 Wagner IC (already on)
- RS2 DP
- Sports Cats
- Milltek cat-back (already on)
- RS2 or 044 fuel pump
- Home-fry (chipped by +45 bhp)
- Exhaust cam - undecided
I'm looking for a turbo that gives RS2 levels of torque with power in the 340-360 range but less lag than the stock RS2 and peak torque that starts roughly where it is now i.e. 2,200 revs.
Am i barking up the wrong tree?
Any advice given gratefully received
Cheers,

You're looking at figures in the middle of S2 and RS2 (with the billet wheel) and spool will be more like the stock turbo, if not better. If you want more than about 330 ponies then you'll have to go RS2 or bigger...Cheers'en, AndyC

You need a custom map with that...Hi Andy,

You can't run it with a RS2 map and you can't run it with a stock turbo map either.
With that amount of upgrades, fitting this tiny turbo is a waste of time IMO, go HX35/K26 for 3600 full boost or K26/K27 for 3800 full boost.Comment

This is the main problem with this sort of upgrade but if you're fully aware of what you're doing, then it's your choice for sure. This turbo is an OEM+ turbo, rather than a larger power upgrade and while it might not rip your face off, you'll not change the character of the car too much and some might want that, much though others won't understand why they'd bother
Think Nothele N300 or MTM303 and you're about right. For the same money, you could have 50-100bhp more but that's not for everyone...

All you need to fit that turbo on a stock car are slightly bigger injectors and a remap, then it is a worthwhile upgrade.
If doing EM, IM and loads of other stuff then it is a huge waste of money imo. Very little bang for the buck.Comment

Only thing I'll add to that is it's very worthwhile giving your stock EM a really good check over, as mine was in a terrible state when I removed it and seems to be fairly representitive of others I've seen too; they are a minimum of 15 years old now. The cracks and thus leaks were almost definately causing me problems. In that case, when you're replacing the EM, you might as well get a better one, if funds allow.
In the interests of a budget upgrade, what about some of the cheaper EM options as a suitable product for one of these? The US log manifold whose name I've forgotten or, dare I say it, an RS2 copy

That's the kiddie; was $189 last time I looked but not a design that's that highly thought of for higher power applications, due to combined runners for the outer cylinders.
So, in summary - minimum requirements are injectors, map and maybe a new EM
Anything over and above that is really down to whether you're planning something larger in the future or just want to eek every last pony out of what you have. For reference, on my ABY, an RS2 IC made a massive 1% or 3bhp difference on an otherwise identical setup... The 3" DP was a nice upgrade though and some extra noise from the replacement exhaust was also a nice addition.
A cold air feed is also a very cheap and very worthwhile addition, especially for smoother power delivery when accelerating about town or after being stuck in traffic.
Dimitri, is it worth hard wiring the fuel pump as a belt and braces modification?Last edited by Rusty; 21 December 2011, 09:18.Cheers'en, AndyC
