Have no clutch on my 20v ur coversion! Plaese help!

I'm doing 20v conversion on my 1985 ur quattro, engine is fitted and mated to ur quattro 5 speed gearbox.
I'm using flywheel from 3b and cluth plate from ur. Realese bearing from ur also. (flywheel machined out to fit on crank)
What it is i have no cluth, while engine is runing i can put in any gear i want without tuching the clutch pedal. It is little bit of crunch noise if i try to go in reverse, but still possible.
While in gear i can stop driveshaft by hand but they spining if not held.
Had a gearbox out today again and swapped the realese bearing for thiner one. Had a slave cylinder out( new) and checked if it is any play on realese bearing between the bearing and presure plate. It is few mm. So i presume bearing is not pushing on presure plate.
I run out of steam and have no ideas what else to check or measure.
    Any ideas, or advice??
    Thank you

The 3b flywheel is to fat to use with an 016 box and the release bearing will pressing on the pressure plate forks even when the peddle is released.

Not sure if anyone has tried this type of flywheel before on this box.

Try removing the slave cylinder and start it in gear and see if you get drive, if you do you may get away with a shorter push rod, if not you may need to source the right flywheel.

    Hope it helps.

    Darren.

When you say you had the slave cylinder out there is movement on the release fork?

This means there is plenty of room for it to work correctly.

It still sounds to me like you have either damaged the spigot bearing or it is fitted back to front as it is a unidirectional bearing.

If the bearing is the cause it will drive the car without the pressure plate or friction plate even being fitted.

I use a fedanza lightened flywheel with my 3b motor and 016 gearbox in the 20v ur. Works fine.

That is exactly what i done today ! had a slave out,, got my finger in there and i can feel few mm of movement on the fork. Which means it's free and not presing on presure plate.
I can put in gear with slave out and engine runing.

I have movement on the fork about 2-3 mm guessing by touching with finger.
But Brian if the bearing is damaged or wrong way round the gearbox will be driven all the time! But in my case symptoms is same as there is no clutch as i can put in any gear and change while engine is runing..

              Oh I see....
So there is no drive to the box?

I thought that that it had constant drive?

Have you driven the car before engine change?

Are you sure the gearbox is ok!

I had similar issues with mine when I first got it going. I sorted it with a thin spacer between the block and gearbox. When I took it to bits a couple of months ago I finally found out what was going on. The centre of the pressure plate was being pushed onto the centre of the flywheel. The pressure plate was obviously bottomed out on the splines and when the gearbox bolts were tightened it flexed the plate and pushed the centre in just enough to drag on the flywheel.

Try slackening off the gearbox bolts slightly and pull the gearbox back a little bit (not off the dowels) then see if it is sorted.

the gearbox was in the car but not the engine. i had it out and mated it to engine on the bench and then fitted to the car. the gearbox does look in godd nick and i cheked manualy it seems fine.diff lock etc all work, oil looks nice and clean.
i have a slight drive on gearbox but it can be easy stopped holding a wheel.

                    that is interesting theory
i gona take gearbox out again anyway so what to look for?? realese bearing looks ok
but how to see what is wrong on pressure plate or clutch disk or pivot bearing.
Brian you mentioned that it is possible that clutch plate can stuck on flywheel?? where it's been machined out? is the symptoms would be same?
thank you guys for helping with ideas

Take the pressure plate off and look for any contact between the drive plate and the flywheel.

Which 20v did you use. If an ABY did you fit the spacer that was between engine and box, it should be there for DM flywheels only.

Im guessing you used the ur friction and pressure plate. Only other unknown to me is 3B flywheel + maching. Do you have the old flywheel to try?

I'm using 3b flywheel, ur plate, 3b pressure plate, ur release bearing.
I have no ur flywheel to swap it over.
Something gone wrong with this setup but can't
Figure out what at the moment
