    Found my boost leak finally

Well today I finally managed to dig out my boost test kit I bought years ago from Andy p but never used, went to work and locked myself in the garage to try and finally solve this boost leak I've had for far too long.

Would you believe it, it was coming from my mark h mod ! I mean seriously......the one mod that you wouldn't expect to fail! It had an inch long split in it, no wonder I was only getting 1.5 rather than 2 bar !

My intercooler has no o ring so despite what I've read on here I will be fitting one along with another hose.

My test kit must of been an odd one out as the tyre valve is actually on the large bung that goes in the maf hose, so I pressured it from there, it would only hold pressure to 0.5 bar then would gush out the intercooler.

Now my other issue after the boost test is now I have a smokey exhaust, i only drove it for 2 miles to get home but am slightly worried I may have done a bit of damage ? I am aware it's a risk pressurising from the maf hose but thought that 0.5 bar would be ok as I've done it before , what's the chances the seals fooked or does it just need a good run ?

Did you remove pcv when pressurised. If not you may have forced oil past the rings a touch. It should clear.

No I didn't I literally just used the bung in the maf, I'd heard people pressurising to two bar but I guess that was doing it the other way, I could only peak to 0.5 bar

What are you still doing here ? Take it out and hammer it, then report back when the smoke has stopped or you have a rod through the crankcase

You should isolate the pvc or you hear the oil in the sump gurgling. However a thrash will clear it...enjoy

Hark at you two ! Great advice as ever ! I have to get the front end off again as I left my spare mark h mods at home then went to the garage bloody typical !

Do many people run the mark h mod without the O ring ?

Always used the O ring as well.. The smoke will clear when you've driven it a bit.

So could this be related to my tacho cutting out for a split second then resuming where it left off ? It's like the ecu resets itself, I've read up it could be a trigger failure like a crank or speed sensor etc but then to be loosing 0.5bar boost must surely affect this.

Andy, nice colour in spite of what Tiff thinks.

                        May explain your colour ?

                        Regards.

Il have a look at that later cheers mate!

Update....sourced an o ring off a spare thermostat I had as it's the same part number ! Fitted my new silicone sleeve that took ages, used a smidge of washing up liquid in the end and got it all as right as it would go but still I am only getting 1.5 bar boost !

Interestingly I sat at idle and revved up the engine for a split second and it revved to over 8k rpm ! Ummm I don't like that! I'm running some Ts chips, in light of my other issues is it possible for chips to go bad ? Can you screw them up putting them in ? Never had any issues with putting chips in before.....

Now you've fixed the first leak, test it again, you may have other smaller leaks.
