Reliability is something to consider aswell, Garretts don't seem to last long.
Changing to gt3071r

Yep. Ball bearings from Garrett won´t be as longlasting as KKK´s bearings- and when they are worn, you can throw away the turbo AFAIK. KKK bearings last longer, and when they are worn, you can overhaul the turbo.
Ball bearings benefit on the other hand will be a faster spool and throttle response- compared to a good built KKK that difference is very little, but it is there.Comment

There are a multitude of different K26 hotsides all of which can make more power than RS2, the above doesn't really hold water with a correctly sized application.
It also depends on what your definition of lag.Comment

So many pro's and cons. It makes the decision even more difficult. But still I'm thinking more direction 3071. A little less downtorque but more punch in the higher revs. It so that it's not a dayly car. I drive only in the weekends with the s2. And mostly I do long distances on the highway. Maybe something to concider?Comment

95% (probably more) of all K26 applications use the standard contour 1 wheel, which has nearly the same outlet diameter as RS2 charger (difference ~4%).
outlet dia K26: 54,5mm___Inlet dia K26:64,4mm___weight: 291g___moment of inertia: 0,74
outlet dia RS2: 52,8mm___Inlet dia RS2: 59mm____weight: 226g___moment of inertia: 0,43
AFAIK the outlet diameter of a Turbine is most important parameter for power it ist good for. And this is nearly the same.
There are K26 wheels that can do more power, yes, but they are rare, not cheap- and in this case not necessary, because in the power range of up to 420hp the RS2 stock one is definitely enought, so why go bigger? Bigger means always more lag.
Garrett´s GT30 uses a turbine wheel inlet diameter of 60mm as well, and that´s enough for 450hp with the 0.84 trim. The main benefit from Garrett always was the better spool and less lag, I think, that was not only because of the ball bearings, but also while using turbine wheels that have smaller inlet diameter compared to their KKK "competitors" that use that "fat and heavy" K26 turbine wheel :-)Last edited by Quattronaut; 11 July 2014, 10:11.Comment

Maybe it is possible to meet someone with a setup like the 3071 or the k26? Someone who lives close Mol in Belgium. I think it's better to feel the differences in real life before taking a decision.Comment

hi bart, soon is my gt3076r setup ready and can i take you with me for a ride

Sorry, but I wouldn't believe that this will help you :-)
Especially the feeling of a car is mostly depending on the mapping, and there are so many other things that will influence that either...
I know this decision is hard :-)Comment

Bart, I went from RS2 turbo to GT3071 0.63. The RS2 setup spools quickly and violently and it pretty exciting but as you know, runs out of steem higher up. The GT3071 spools just a little later and slower (possibly due to mapping around the surge) but then just goes so well it's funny. Both setups were mapped on the road by Mihnea. I've since fitted a Wagner rev IM, IC and RS2 evo EM and I'm sure the car would benefit from a remap. I'm going to switch to ABY loom, ECU and 5 coils first though.Comment
