You should measure coil resistance if you have a multimeter - looking for 1 ohm +/- 0.5 ohm from memory. That is a fairly basic test but will spot a coil gone bad in such a fundamental way. If the primary coil is broken you will never get spark.
I am going to write up something to help folk on this area. Most people cannot consume the complexity going on here.
Cheers for the input guys, Dave is there a wiring diagram for the coils ? Just want to double check every wire goes to where it belongs.
The OE coils need three wires: black, yellow/tan and brown
Black = the trigger signal from the POS channel in question
Yellow/tan = the 12V power input from the white plugs at the fire wall
Brown = Ground/earth - might not be on the coil itself because the coils bolt to the 20V Turbo cover without any insulation and there is a thick brown wire attached to the 20V Turbo cover that is then attached to the right rear corner of the cam cover.

It is worth running a new earth from pin 2 of the 4-pin plug on the POS connector. That will workaround the possibility of a damaged internal connection on the loom.
