Trying to decide for a turbo in 500hp range for my 80q. One alternative would be Holset HX35 Super, but I have been offered a Garrett 52/62mm, .63 A/R. Any thoughts?Attached Files

I'm not sure what the base is on this turbo, but it's a custom build with both compressor- and turbine housings machined. According to the seller, it can make 600hp on a sr20det engine with great responce and spool, but I'll guess it would be with e85.

Got better specs and pics of the turbo. Some info was wrong. It has 54/76mm compressor and 74/62mm turbine with .48 a/r housing. Could be quite early spooling..? New modified turbo with watercooling.

If you guys want big power and fast spool, try Borg Warner SXE turbos. Maybe can find a open t3 housing for them. If there is something that will fit. I would never consider any Garrett or Holset, IF buying new, and going for 400+.

450 EUR is a good price. You can always sell it for the same money. I would try 500 crank with E85.
But in my opinion going with a very small AR housing is always quite a big trade off. Backpressure is quite nasty. You get lots higher EGT, lots more chance for detonation, if you got cams with big overlap, there is just too much burnt gasses in cylinder, less oxygen makes less power. Dosen´t sound right. If I would go small housing and big hp. Only way I would do it is with E85, and adjustable cams, cause overlap with high back pressure is bad. Anyways those are my thoughts and I´m no expert. For 500-600 hp cheap, I would go with Holset HE341. Hard to find but they can be found for not much money. If anyone has one for sale, I´m interested.Last edited by sandman1111; 11 September 2016, 21:50.

I'm going to use 7A cams in stock timing marks so not much overlap. Other wise I would use stock AAN cams but I don't have any. This is a budget build anyways, trying to make it fun to drive on street and winter time, easier to drive if it spools early and have good responce. The transmission is a 01A so it wouldn't handle too much power >500hp.
My other UrS project is then a totally different, trying to make it without much limitations...
