What's still avaliable in europe> weld on engine mounts?

    Hello everyone.

Some of you might reconize my screen name... I've gone through alot with these cars with transplants and everything else. I've decide to work my way out of this hole I dug a bit faster.

This meant scraping my second coupe project(now parts car) and sourcing a 1994 B4 platform audi 90 quattro sedan. The problem is the fact that it has a v6 engine in it and not a 5 cylinder setup. Small price to pay for a really nice car.

I've got a couple of choices. I can either cut and weld the engine bracket mounts that are attached to the block. Which I am thinking of leaning towards doing to fix this issuse. I could also weld on 5 cylinder brackets onto the frame rails. My sawzal broke and I am currently having a little issuse getting them out of the coupe. However i took a break from it and will attack them at another time.

I was curious if VAG still sold the 5 cylinder engine mounts and radiator mounts? I doubt it. I know you can't source them here in the states.

I figured I post and ask some questions.

    Thanks
    Josh

      Josh,
You can get those items still. If you recall, B4turbo from AW sourced proper engine mounts for the AAN engine he put into his 12v V6 chassis.
I could be mistaken, but I believe you simply need RS2 brackets (perhaps the same as S2 sedan/avant) brackets.
I'm currently doing a similar swap, but I'm retaining the V6 radiator.

VAGparts should be able to advise availabitlity if you know what you want.
I was under the impression most parts for Coupe's are still available....

        Cheers,

        Steve.

Unfortunately Miles aka B4turbo used the stock mounts with some small chunks of metal as spacers/adapters. Unfortunately I haven't seen where the passenger side aka turbo side engine mount sits in comparison to b3 platform or URS4 platform engine mounts.

I have three spare 7a block and one is empty. Basically my plan right now is to pull the v6 engine out of the sedan and install the bare bottom end to the transmission. Where ever the mounts sit in comparision to bolt on v6 engine mounts will allow me to make my decisions.

I have a funny feeling I will have the car flatbed with the engine pulled out to my friends shop to have them cut up the stock engine brackets that mount to the engine to make it work properly.

I'm still interested on sourcing prices on the 5 cylinder engine mounts that weld to the frame.

          Thanks
          Josh

That´s a laugh. Don´t ever expect that to be true. Not even for parts that are needed to keep the car on the road! I´m sure everyone can tell his own story about that.

Yeah well, just laugh then, but last i spoke to my dealer in germany that was what he told me. Why should he lie to me? and sofar i have not had any problems sourcing any strange bits. Else there are a lot of used parts stores in germany, guess if you have the part nr. they can surely get it.

Jonas, if you think everything is still available - try to ask about the seat clothing. About all interior fabric stuff for coupe is dropped.

                    Josh,

Josh if you let me know the parts you're after i can also look up availability and pricing for us in the UK.

I believe parts are made available for up to either 15yrs or 20yrs, i know a lot of MK1 Golf stuff is only in the last couple of yrs becoming obsolete, ive yet to come across anything else with any problems, all of us should be safe for time to come yet
