So is the manifold aluminium or is it an alloy? Is a sheet of ali good enough? I don't have any experience of this sort of stuff so need to learn - I'll do this myself Mark - just becasue it looks like to much work to ask you to do it!

Hey slap a piece of polished diamond plate on there.

I have to say it's beautiful to see this type of work being done and shared with the forum. Much less frustrating for me than browsing irry.com! Very nice work, Mark!

I see the ISV port is still at the back of the head. Mark, will you be running hoses or piping back to it from in front of the throttle body, or moving it to the new throttle body side?

      Cheers,

      Ken

          Thanks Ken,

I'm not sure at the moment, but I will probably utilise the existing ISV port, to save on time and work.

          Cheers,

Hm , from what I see here (from my little shiny country) DahlBack IM is easier to reproduce. As you need original runners + tubular aluminium container and a turn. + Few minor bits to weld .

Btw , what I forgot to mention. I have a friend who owns an aluminium factory. If I had a perfect blue prints I would be able to reproduce it in a factory enviroment. Just a thought....

After seeing Marks inlet manifold I thought I would start on mine.

I used a 4.5" 1mm cutting disc on an angle grinder and a grinding disc to smooth things off.

First I cut round the plate, throttle body and access runners I wanted to remove:

Then I removed the plate and the throttle body to be left with this:

Then I cut down the runners with the angle grinder and smoothed the left over parts with the the grinding disc. This was easy for the 2 middle runners but I can't get good access to the outer 2 runners. I'll need to use some different tools.

And sort of what it will look like with the throttle body attached:

I am wondering if it is worth modifying the inlet manifold to miss the power steering pump - Mark - do you know how close it is?

That was enough for one night - about 2 hours work.

                      Doug,

too close m8, they overlap, the PS pump definately needs to be moved down.

                      Cheers,

I have fitted the AAN IM in to my 3B car.

                        I have had to change:
                        - modify the water lines (because the AAN wont go with the standard water manifold that is on the bottom of the standard IM)
                        - get a really flat radiator
                        - move the cooler and the mountings
                        - moved the mounting of the powerstering and the alternator little down and little to the front
                        - get new water lines for modified water manifold
                        - get new cables for tps

But the car now got much better response from the pedal, less lag and so on.

Why i have decided to go with the AAN manifold ? Because if You use the manifold that its entry is on one of is’t sides You will get less air to the first cylinder after the entry and more to the last one. It is really advanced math to make a good one side entry manifold. It is easer to use center entry mainflold.

I have taken out all the things that have been inside the AAN IM and polished the inside except the runners that have to be kept as they where.

Albert - Can you post some pictures or links to pictures of your AAN manifold and the modifications(to the power steering, water manifold, etc)?

The reason the centre entry is moved to the front is because there is a problem with the AAN Inlet manifold not getting enough flow of air to the 1st cylinder..

Doug i will send the pic to You.

Where Did You get the info on the AAN mainfold not geting the enougth air to the 1 cylinder ? Form the books I have center entry of IM enables the air to get in the same amout to all of the cylinders.

Thanks Albert. It is from Dialynx - A UK Audi specialist - there is an article on it somewhere. I think Mihnea told me about this problem as well - It would be easy to test if you had 5 temperature probes, one in each exhaust runner - you could see if no1 was running lean/hotter.

As You probably figure I don’t have 5 egt gauges, just one Would it be possible for You to dig out the article form Dialynx ? I will made new manifold with the center entry during the winter time but till then I will have to live with AAN IM.
