Urgent advice needed with KW1 coilies

I have had some KW1 coilies and new hd top mounts waiting to go on my 92 s2 3b engine coupe. Today i had a couple of hours so fitted the front struts.
I put the wheels back on and the inside wall of the tyre drags slightly on the strut control arm and trackrod end.
I moved the camber so it is fully negative however the off side still drags on the tyre and obviously this seems a bodge way of getting clearance.
THe old standard strut arms were a couple of mil from the inside of the tyre anyway but never touched.
The car has 17 inch 245 40 tyres on audi bolero rims which I believ are off a B5 audi A4
The previous owner fitted these. Dont know offset.

    I have a number of q's

1 has anyone experienced this with Kws?

2 Have i bought the wrong ones? I did but them from Yaz based on front axle weight and mine having m14 strut bolts.

3 What are my options. Different wheels? ( expense and just had them shod in new potenza rubber)

Return struts and try another set ( is it possible position of arm is slightly off?)

5mm wheel spacers? although I hate the things they also seem a bodge.

    HELP.

You need to find out the offset of your wheels, the later cars run more offset than the S2 so I think you probably need spacers anyway. The offset is usually cast into the wheel in the middle somewhere, under the centre cap if you have them.

IIRC S2 coupe wheel offset is 37mm and B5 A4 offset is 45 so you could probably run a 10mm hubcentric spacer.

Having said that 245s are quite big for an S2, how close are they on the outside?

KW warn of this on the website. The issue is you should be running 225 tyres ideally for proper clearance. 245 17 do get run a lot by members with stock suspension but it's close and you've lost the tolerence by switching to KW

Easiest way is 5mm spacers or 10mm hubcentric but you need to check the current gap to the outer arch as I suspect you would need to roll the outer arch

It is too bad that KW has not designed more clearance into the coil overs.

huh this is odd because I believe I gained more clearance there with V3s over stock

B5 wheels are generally ET45, so that's more than likely the issue, especially when combined with the 245 section tyre.

You want to aim for ET35 on a 7.5J or 8J wheel, so find the offset, which will be clearly stated on an OE wheel and then gets spacers and longer wheel bolts to suit, as mentioned above. Job done

I havent had chance to look at off set of wheels yet but am certain the greater off set is the issue. Where can I get some 5mm hubcentric spacers? 5mm should be enough don't really want to widen the track by 10mm really.

Bambridge for spacers. Find out what offset the wheels and then make it up to 35 with spacers. You're not widening it so much as putting it back to stock

I know exactly the problem you are experiencing!
I have Kw v2 on my car and since replacing the standard suspension the original Avis s2 wheels with 225 tyres (et 38) rub lightly on the trackrod end. Luckily my bbs wheels still fit (et 32-35). So I'm not bothered. But there is definitely less clearance than standard suspension. It seems the older remanufactured oem legs (Galv) have less clearance. But the custom newer fabricated legs have more clearance due to slimmer steering arms.
So to answer your question, it's probably correct that you are seeing this unfortunately new wheels or spacers are probably your only options.

Cheers Rusty. I've measured it and 5 mm will be plenty. Id look for some avus rims but just spent fortune on tyres. Sods Law...

Unfortunatly you cant get/make 5mm hubcentric spacers, 10mm is the thinest Hubcentric spacers.
Its because of the length of the 57mm spigot that protudes from the hub face roughly 13mm, if it protuded only 8mm, then yes 5mm is possilble
