Wow - scarey photos alright there from Andy. As suggested already - there should be plenty pf material for a good alloy welder to make that good again. What a hard way to learn something. This needs to be a sticky in the transmission section - I'll also update S2central with a warning of this problem when doing the SM flywheel upgrade.
Keep the faith Andy - you have more patience than most...
I am going down the same route this week - changing ABY flywheel to 7a.
Will be watching out for the dowel pin issues u had. Thanks to the forum and Andy for making it possible that i dont run into the same problem.

Faheemo, make sure you check out my other thread in the "guides and tips" section... linky. There's a parts list of what needs changing. I think the 7A flywheel is heavier than the 3B one, unless you've had it lightened?

All back together now, cheers to Chen and Neil for their efforts. Had a complete mare with the 6 speed linkage last night as the ball joint had popped out, undid eveything and it slipped in as easy as you like. Proper at that! Anyway, a few squeaks and rattles aside it seems to all be running so just going to cover a few miles and give it a once over to try and cure any problems outstanding from the last 4 weeks of hardcore mechanicing.
First impressions are that the car is less smooth and seems to have a few points where there is a touch of resonance in the driveline but it also seems to accelerate like a scaulded cat as it is really picks up and there is almost no driveline shunt (there was before). Better performance might have something to do with -2degC, RS2 IC and a small turbo so IATs will be rediculously low. resonance might be the exhaust because I had to ditch the springs that go on the cat to Milltek screws.
Standard clutch is beautifully light and seems to handle full acceleration in first and second without issue, hope it's ok in the long run.
Anyway, worth the effort as I was changing the clutch anyway.

Resonance you say... and drivetrain noises... That is indeed what the DM flywheel is designed to reduce and remove. However its just as likely that the noises you have are as a result of something stupid like a heatshield that has got dislodged and moved too close to exhaust or chassis components. That happened me after fighting with a handbrake cable one - check all the heatshields under there.
I'm glad you've got it sorted in the end Andy.
Extra vibration could be the flywheel swap causing an imbalance. But ABYs do feel smoother, there's no doubt about that.
I hope the improved engine response is worth the effort Andy.
