I got to looking at my rear discs and the inboard surfaces are truly shagged. MOT is on Friday so I went shopping to the local ECP for what I need in a hurry. Did my homework first and checked the part number on the family album.
It came up with 8E0 615 601B (now replaced by 8E0 615 601P) - which is weird cos the '8E' denotes MY03 and later A4 vehicles. I cross checked and sure enough the MY03 A4 calls up a 245x10 disc with 5x112 pattern.
I ordered them yesterday and EPC had them in today as promised for a whopping £17.50 each plus VAT - to my astonishment they look right. By comparison the rear discs on an MY97 A4 are very different looking. I will be fitting them tonight - then taking a long run tomorrow to bed them in with new pads.
None of this is terribly important until you see that the S4 model has a 300x22mm rear disc.
The disc is 8E0 615 601K (and an 8E0 615 601R is also shown) @ £44.97 + VAT
The carrier is 8E0 615 425B @ £71.53 + VAT
The pads are 8E0 698 451C @ £47.43 + VAT
Because the hat height on the 245x10mm disc is the same as the S2 - then there is at least a decent chance the monster 300x22mm rear discs could fit.
Other questions are if th carrier will accomodate the UrS4/S6 or A8 rear caliper (needed for 22mm disc clearance) - or if the NeuS4 calipers are needed... At which point it would be cheaper to get custom carriers made.
Whatchya think - anybody else tried this option before I waste time on it ??????
