  • Nah - I could see that if the rear caliper was much much bigger than fronts... That and others have used the same sized rear caliper without issues - I think its just my bad luck and I must have ingested some air.

    • I took a look in the family album and those disc (8E0615601R) have been around for a while. Like since 2001 on A4s and S4s. Made me thinking if anyone have had the chance to test the calipers that normaly hugs those disc on an S2...? Those are named: 8E0615423C . And the carrier: 8E0615425B .

Would be interesting to know if and how they fit.

      And Paul, GREAT job there!!!

      • Oh, and btw... DIdn't the A8/S8 280x22mm disc fit that setup? Or is it not the correct offset?

        • The Avant conversion is really straightforward, only requiring some adjustment of the handbrake cable free play and some milling of the brake caliper bracket to ensure clearance... I also had air get in when bleeding, but once bled out, all was fine.

It makes a significant difference to the attitude of the car when heavy braking and stops the car without the dive associated with A8 fronts only. Top conversion!

          Cheers Paul

            Paul,

Have you anymore details or pics on the reason for this?

                • I'll need to dig that up - in the family album you'll find two choices in iron/steel -

                  RR quattro circa 1991
                  UrS6 / Avant quattro circa 1996

Or in alloy you can find them on an A8/S8 - almost identical to those above - MarkH used them. Only little difference I know of is slightly different diamter in the locating hole for the handbrake cable - it needs to be widened slightly to accomodate the S2 Coupe h'brake cable.

BTDT ages ago with those on the S2 Coupe. The handbrake is a bitch for the Coupe - but its perfect for S2 Avant or Sedan - see S2avants recent thread on this one - he's done it !

                    • And finally - heres the brake caliper part numbers applicable to 8E0 upgrade on the Coupe....

                      447 615 423 and 447 615 424

You'll find that for an AAN equipped UrS4/S6 from 08/91 thru 07/97 or the AEC equipped (4.2 V8) UrS6 from 09/94 thru 10/97.

I notice there is a part number 447 698 661X listed for this which gets you both reco'd calipers and new pads. This is listed for the UrS4/S6 above and also the RR engined quattro of 1990/1991 vintage. List price from Audi UK is a frightening one approx £600 before VAT, but you don't need to pay that !

Key here is the side pull handbrake mechanism needed for the Coupe.

                      • i still got these rear brakes lying around:mischeif:
and now the i look at this rearbrake topic
i really want to fit my calipers

                        what i got is:
                        a new set 280x22 disc from a A3 {or a New Beetle?}
5x100 so they have to be machined
                        alu A8 calipers

i believe there are other rear brake lines needed?
i cannot find the handbrake solution for these calipers ?

                        • Those calipers don't look right - compare with photos of mine !

                          http://homepage.mac.com/nugentp/PhotoAlbum16.html

Do you have a number for those calipers ? They might work on an Avant/Sedan - but the handbrake actuator needs to be on the side for the Coupe.

Standard S2 rear brake hoses work with UrS4/S6/RR calipers - but NOT with alloy A8/S8 calipers - MarkH found the caliper fitting was bigger.

i remember another treat where someone fitted these calipers on the rear
                            off the coupe .

got a pic thought they put the left caliper on the right side of the car
                            also another brakeline fitting
but the handbrake i cannot recall
by looking maybe make the handbrake wire holding wider?.
