Took a bit of searching to get all the parts for this conversion on Coupe in one place, but here goes -
B7 Disc, 300x22 vented - 8E0 615 601R (2-off)
A8/S8 carrier - 4D0 615 425C (2-off)
Calipers from RR quattro or UrS4/S6 - 447 615 423 and 447 615 424
S8 pads for those 280mm discs - 1J0 698 451L
50mm long caliper carrier bolts - N101 815 02 (4-off)... Shortened to ~35mm for the task
Also recommended along the way is new brake lines and clips for handbrake...
S2 Coupe rear hose - 893 611 775 (2-off)
Brake union clip clamps - 4D0 611 715B (2-off)
Handbrake cable lock clip - N900 527 02 (2-off)
Two pics attached. First one shows view from above, tother from below... you can just see how the pad nicely fills the available disc area and there is no unswept section. Car not driven a few days - hence the surface rust visible across disc.
I did notice a major improvement after I first fitted them as my original calipers were totally seized up... Actually - it took me a few goes to get this one right - just remembered the embarrassing lesson in brake bleeding when I fitted these... I did it twice with the handbrake applied and couldn't work out how I still had air in the system. D'oh...
I have used them for the odd handbrake turn - declutched of course - but they can definitely lock up the rears on tarmac. The piston in the new caliper is bigger than S2 item...
I have still to do my 996 monos up front BTW - faffed about with those for long enough after all the arguments about what size to run... I'm into 16" Avus rims again as I hate the weight of the RS6 reps and fact that every other Golf / Passat on the planet has them... So I'll have to get my bits together for a proper front installation using RS2 carriers and such with the necessary machining to get me circa 308mm diameter on those and plenty of clearance to the wheels, but I digress...
I got some prices back from VAG parts and im gonna have to re think going down this route because of the cost. Looking at about £680 just in parts!! For that money I could probably get a custom setup made with ally bells etc so unless I can get a good price on some second hand parts elsewhere I will have to leave this upgrade
Yeah I have some red stuffs in there at min, should have got green I think. But the calipers are going to need changing which is gonna cost me at least £120 to do anyway.
@Greg - top tip (if a bit sneaky)... Order the RR calipers I listed as exchange items then return your old ones. Only the most observant parts guy will spot the difference if you exchange same day on the bench.
excuse my retardness, but i have an A8 or S8 in spare parts close, and i wonder what parts are good for the rear brake upgrade avant/limo. the carriers are 100% ok?. what about the disc? they are like new, it would be a pity to leave it there if they are ok. 280mm would be enough for me btw. what size are the a8 rear disk?
The A8/S8 carriers are no use on B4 avant/limo cos unless you can source a suitable caliper that is big enough for vented disc and has the handbrake mechanism in the same place.
If that A8/S8 has 280x22mm discs then the carriers and calipers are worth having off it. The discs aren't usable on B3/B4 though.
