  • I paid £64+VAT for the carriers from VAG-PARTS, and I bought the calipers from America, £100 the pair, new!!
You can get the calipers from here:-

    http://www.brakeparts.co.uk/

Around £240/pair, or breakers want around £100/pair.

    • Thats a great price on those calipers from new - even with postage and time delay.

About £100 per pair from breaker is on the money... And yes that 280x22 disc from the S8 is the wrong one - incorrect hat height as mentioned.

      • Paul, if I am not wrong the V8 rear caliper has the same reference as the 100S4, the 447 615 423/4 you posted before. I have checked that the V8 uses a 276x20 rear disc (I have seen this on a parts page).
I was wondering if a V8 rear brake setup would be plug and play on a S2. Have you made any investigation on this?
        Thanks.
        Cheers!

        • That rear caliper from V8 will work OK - same running gear as UrS4/S6 pretty much. I don't think the V8 disc is usable though - offset/hat-height is all wrong.

Thanks for your answer. Now I have also checked the difference between discs... I just supposed that it could probably work but wasn't able to check the difference before.
Since I wrote the other post I have tried to search a little bit more. A friend of mine has told me that he has searched through the ETKA and the caliper carriers of the Audi V8 and the Audi S8 have the same reference but I am not completely sure as the disc size is quite different. I will try to confirm this.
            Cheers!

Offtopic: Paul, I sent you a PM for the Samco Group Buy... some friends of the Spanish Forum are interested.

            • The rear brakes on AUdi V8 are same 269x20 setup as 20V UR and the UrS4/S6 - they do *NOT* share the same carrier as the S8. I have just checked here.

              • neu neu S4 disc height:
                8E0.... height is 35mm
                S2 was 40mm.
                A3 height was 37mm

                -> all very close

Does the 8e0 have enough pad area if diameter reduced to 269mm ? Looks too tight for further reduction in Paul´s picture gallery:
                http://homepage.mac.com/nugentp/.cv/...mb_140_105.jpg

                http://homepage.mac.com/nugentp

Because the A3 disc needs machining from 100mm PCD to 112mm and the central hub hole increased from 65mm to 68mm the new neu neu disc candidate for S2 coupe, sedan and avant is mostly wellcome to reduce the cnc work. In the old concept the mods did not change the diameter and in a way the disc´s factory balancing was not altered. It would be interesting to put the neu neu s4 disc to balancing machine after the diameter has been reduced.

Some gadgets just get better when they get older, like the modified S2.

                  • Greg - I think the parts list is throughout this thread with a write up on how I did mine. All bolt on stuff. Only extra step was getting the disc diameter reduced. Small washers required for spacing carrier to strut correctly but that was it.

                    B7-S4 discs (300x22) reduced to 280mm
A8/S8 carriers as used on 280mm setup
                    UrS4/S6/RR rear calipers
A8/S8 rear pads for 280mm setup
Rear caliper bolts from the S2 Avant - longer than Coupe and require some shortening for fitment
4 x lil washers for spacing the carrier

                    • Took a bit of searching to get all the parts for this conversion on Coupe in one place, but here goes -

                      B7 Disc, 300x22 vented - 8E0 615 601R (2-off)
                      A8/S8 carrier - 4D0 615 425C (2-off)
                      Calipers from RR quattro or UrS4/S6 - 447 615 423 and 447 615 424
                      S8 pads for those 280mm discs - 1J0 698 451L
                      50mm long caliper carrier bolts - N101 815 02 (4-off)... Shortened to ~35mm for the task

Also recommended along the way is new brake lines and clips for handbrake...
                      S2 Coupe rear hose - 893 611 775 (2-off)
                      Brake union clip clamps - 4D0 611 715B (2-off)
                      Handbrake cable lock clip - N900 527 02 (2-off)

                      Hope that helps.........

                      • Excellent, thanks. Will start to make some enquires on pricing for the parts since my rear calipers are near the end of their life. I was reading the article on S2 brakes on S2central the other day too. Was wondering if the brake bias can be adjusted so a little more power is sent to the rear?

I was thinking about this too, by my calculations (which may well be wrong) after the 996 upgrade even this upgrade does not get the balance back to what it should be.
Maybe an aftermarket brake bias valve can be used?

                          • Well I've not done any calculations on this... dunno if factory bias is perfect either for the S2... But yes one could easily replace the pressure valve on the S2 with an adjustable aftermarket device to tweak if you liked.

                            • actually now i think about it i did the calcs for my car, and mines lowered about 60mm so less weight transfer 'n' all that so the bias may well be fine for a stock S2, also i have the 7A so less weight over the front, not much i know but all the little bits add up.
I'm just thankful to all those that helped in getting this info onto the forum!! especially Ben and Paul!!
(2 different setups i know but i'm merging them lol)
