How many of each colour S2 & RS2's are there?

I could be wrong here - but I think it was possible to order the RS2 from new with a selection of Porsche colours so maybe that Guard's Red comes from the porker paint shop.

Sort of. You could get custom colours at order which explains the yellow (ferrari colour) & pearl white (audi but not on UK spec). However I do not think they had a porsche colour chart for you to select from. Never seen an OEM RS2 paint job in any porsche colour other than polar.

Yeah - only reason I suggest that is the RS2 was also marketed thru Porsche dealerships and its very plausible that someone has ordered one in a Porsche shade of red - based on something they saw in the showroom that colour. Just a thought !

Was that in the UK or Europe Paul ? I thought in the UK they were almost all pre sold & delivered to Audi dealerships.

Pretty certain it was UK - maybe adhoc per dealership though... Over here it was the same dealer that had VW, Audi & Porsche coverage at the same location in a Belfast suburb - way back then - so you had a very wide range of stuff in the same showroom... A friend of a friend had been thru a few porkers by them and I distinctly recall talking to him about a blue RS2 that he'd taken on test drive whilst getting his 911 serviced one day.

I flukily found my 1st Audi (a 1987 Coupe GT) in 1992 at that dealership as I'd noticed that it had been traded in against a new shape Coupe before it made it to the showroom.

Since those days, the dealer has expanded into Seat and Skoda of course, but all the brands are scattered across specific branches in different parts of town.

The said Guards Red RS2 (RHD) was rumoured to have spent sometime testing in Germany.

Interestingly the VIN number is different to anyother RS2 in NZ

Guards Red RS2:
WACZZZ8CZRZ02D***

My normal RS2 VIN:
WACZZZ8C2S200****


Does anyone know why the Guards Red RS2 has a different VIN code than say the other 11 RS2s in NZ?

The VINs won't be different...

WAC prefix defines it as the RS2

The '8C2' is just '8CZ' read incorrectly !

The 'S2' is actually 'SZ' read wrong again...

Normally the Z is a blank character in the VIN but oddly on the RS2 - one of those Z means the factory at Zuffenhausen in Stuttgart.

So that upper one 'RZ' is an MY94 car
and the lower one is MY95.... Don't get your zeroes and D's mixed up either - could be crusty VIN plate - or are you just dyslexic ?
