Braking a binner yes but your car ...now that would be totally criminal!!

With regard value ...It is what someone is willing to pay and at the end of the day , you have to benchmark against other cars for sale in same condition /mileage when deciding price..Yours is priced at 4.7K which is top end value I would say for overall condition and mileage and compared to what you paid for it ?(my view!)..Good luck if you get the money ..I am looking to sell my Avant soon (shameless plug) and would be very happy if i got close to 4K for it

Think the best idea would be is to write a bull S H I T letter to the BBC and tell them ashes to ashes needs to evolve and use a S2 in there next series and we will be all sorted

What someone pays for a car is irrelivant really isnt it?
If you managed to buy something for a fiver that was worth 50 quid, when you come to sell it would you sell it for 5 or 50?
Anyway, I do not EVER buy cars to make money, if anyone is triyng to do that then they are in the wrong game LOL!
Regarding breaking mine, if its what I have to do get what I want for it, then it will be broken, simple as that... Im not giving it away for peanuts, Id rather keep it.
And before anyone tries to say Im just looking to make money from my S2, Im not.
A deal was struck when I got it that pleased us both, but thats got nothing to do with this thread

Its all well and good arguing about values etc, but do any of these 5-6k s2's actually sell? The ones on pistonheads for that kind of money never seem to have a 'sorry, this car has been sold'' appear under them. Ive been trying to sell mine for 2.8 ono for ages, and barely had a sniff, at least not anywhere near the asking price, and that car has had more than the asking price spent on it in the last 6 months! To the point where now, breaking is a bit of a consideration, or im 80% on giving up trying to sell it at all and trying to soldier on with it.

IMO the £5 - £6 ones were selling well pre credit crunch, but it seems the last 6 - 12 months have taken their toll on the car market in general and now there are MORE good cars for sale, and LESS keen new owners...

Give it 12 months and the £5 - £6k cars will be selling again. (And we will probably be wanting to keep them again too )

              Cheers,

              Steve.

I could break mine for more than it would sell for, I guarantee it, I don't think I could do it though but if I needed it gone and no one was going to pay what I feel its worth then its going to be taken to bits, sad but money talks and if someone else won't respect what the car is worth as a whole then your not left with many other options.
Criminal to break a working car in good state regardless of price, I bet you'd buy a Veyron and then break it as you couldn't get your money back :corey:

You can probably expect to see mine being broken soon, it seems I cant sell it for what I value it at due to too many ***** on here rubbishing my advert
I dont care if its a fully working car or not TBH, its not a sacred object!
Frankly I find it crazy that it seems owners on here want to keep the values down by saying everything is too expensive?! :corey:

Its not that people on this forum set the market rate for the cars or wish to keep their values low... There is a whole world of people that just see it as ~15yr hot estate car... I wish you all the luck in getting what 'you' value it at - but 'you' don't set the market rate - that is why there has been some discussion on this.

Its a complex enough situation selling an old car, but with the dreaded credit crunch, petrol going up again and the niche market of potential buyers for an S2 Avant - you have to be a wee bit reasonable with your expectations.

S2's will never command good money as they do not have a cult following like mk1 escort's, cossie's, lancia delta's so just get over it are cars are not worth what we think they are. again they are not a UR Quattro ask any body our age name a Audi UR will be one of the first one's mentioned then audi coupe mention S2 and they look at you like your from another planet

                        cheers Raj

Case in point being that the UR is rightly considered to be a classic car... The S2 is much more rare, but only a small proportion of those that recognise the UR as a classic would put the S2 into the same category... That's why it doesn't have the same widespread appeal / understanding and why the street values are generally so low. On face value - it looks like an old Audi 80 with a thirsty engine and some potentially large running costs.

IMHO, the S2 is never seeked out by your ordinary average 2nd hand car buyer... Even those looking for something a bit 'old skool' or 'different' will be somewhat wary of the S2 because of the potential expenses. We S2 owners are a bit of a niche bunch of folk with the capacity / interest / enjoyment for things of a less mundane nature... I think that is generally also why this forum has been so successful as we recognise this odd old car needs the collective knowledge and mindshare to take some of the stress out of owning one !
                          i totally agree

its your car. do as you see fit.

its a lump of metal after all.

there will always be those who say dont break it. its a rare car. well they should buy it then. if the demand was there then it would be gone and you wouldn't have to contemplate breaking.

there are only a small number of the population who will put up with old gas guzzlers that need parts every month and that are temperamental at the best of times and most of us are here already.

its gotta be touch and go matching the return on that in bits though even at 3.5k. having seen your other thread i can see the potential roadmap.

                              best of luck

                                escort

comparing an s2 to that escort isn't a true reflection. the escort in question is very very special...7,000 miles etc etc. just about ANY car with that provenance is going to fetch strong money to interested parties/collectors!!!
if there is an original s2 out there with 7,000 miles on the clock in great condition its probably almost unique now let alone in ten years time.
