i'm sure s2's will have their day. 25 years is normally around the time that most cars only start to become more "interesting". in the next ten years most of the poor/average ones will disappear leaving the better examples. the number of people wanting one will start to exceed those available and prices will start to climb creating even more of a demand. simples!!
in ten years time an s2 in great order with good provenance and 7,000k on the clock will fetch a VERY high price. who would argue its not worth £15,000 to £20,000k even now. its unique... you couldn't buy another....probably the same as that escort.
there was a time when escorts were getting scrapped off left right and centre. now the demand definately outstrips the supply and prices are high.
at the moment s2's fetch what they fetch no matter how frustrated you/we get. in the end if a car is vastly underpriced it'll sell within 24 hours.

hi, i know am new on here and am not a spamer, but i have a keen intrest in the s2 altough i dont have one, but if i said s2 to any of my mates no one would know what they were or how good they can be if i said integra scubby evo sylvia ae68 they would know everything about them as jap has a huge following at the mo, i dont even know how i came on these beasts but they dont look much to the average eye, i love the sound the power an the rarity of these, now the value i am pleased with i would pay 3,4,5k for one but if they were selling for 6,7,8,9 i wouldnt even be considering buying one as i know money will need to be spent for the right performance, but i do want something different, i have been a fan of honda for awhile now an loved the relablity of the integra type r for 4.5k but i want to get away from the average car and have something different, thanks david. ps. it will be awhile before i buy an s2 as currently i wont have my licence back for 10mths.

Get over yourself its only a car !

As it happens it will do someone else if not quite a few people a favour as it will help them get their cars to a standard they wanted on their own but couldn't source the parts as they are rare.

My car is high mileage, good condition for mileage but not perfect, with solid subframe mounts and that exhaust its not going to be to everyones taste so breaking it would be the best way of getting a sensible amount of money back.

IF you decide to break it I'll have the lower door mouldings and some parts of the interior trim

What is peoples opinions on an S2 that has had literally thousands spent on it replacing tons and tons of parts?
Its all well and good buying these low milers, but for the most part, they are all looking forwards to needing a lot of tired bits replacing at some point.
Surely a car that has had them all sorted is going to be a better option?

Nothing wrong with high mileage S2 - as long as there is evidence of 'thousands spent' recently on keeping it tip top - these are the cars that will fetch best prices - as long as body/paint is good and still feel nice to drive. A lot of folk are simply put off by big mileage - they feel like the car is approaching end of life when mileage goes over 100k - the engines are worthy of more than double that mileage before any major worries - tired turbos excepted but a few hundred gets one reconditioned.

You know how some old cars just 'feel' old to drive - with sloppy dynamics, creaky interior and stuff like that... A looked after Audi does not generally get that 'old' feel unless things like bushes, engine mounts and such have been left too long- but things like condition/comfort of seats and such can show the cars age too.

WOOHOO! Maybe I need to advertise my car properly then, because it HAS had thousands spent on it, I have 2 folders jam packed FULL of receipts to back it all up too

Put it this way, when Matt had it, he compiled a spreadsheet for all the paperwork, this is the summary:

Amount spent before his ownership: £12716.35
Amount spent during his ownership: £7029.74

As you have also seen from my thread when I polished it, it has pretty damn good paint too.
Everything is spot on, it drives nice and tight, pulls well (rock solid 20psi held on WOT) and has not wanted for anything.

Now you can see why I valued it higher than the average standard crappers that are for sale!

Well thats the tricky bit - easy to prove that ~20k has been spent - but harder to stick a price on that which buyers will be willing to swallow... I am not arguing against you here dest - just that with so many cheaper looking cars around (yes that need thousands spent to get into good nick) it is not an easy position for you to be in. It is not a sellers market right now. But all you need is one buyer who really feels that yours is best real value for money in the long run. Joe bloggs wont see that - you need an educated customer.

Another idea is for you to get an idea of the other cars (your competition) that are currently for sale - it would be fairly easy to spot any big faults they are carrying and estimate cost of repairs/restoration to like for like condition - that way you can level the playing field and communicate the value of what you are selling.

For example - the car 50 miles away selling for 2500 needs bushes all round and new engine mounts, and the aircon compressor is dead. Plus there is a hole in the intercooler and two of the tyres need chaged soon. Not hard to see how that car looks like a bad option compared to yours for ~1000 on parts to fix that (plus labour if prospective buyer is handless).

This is the issue, most S2 owners it would appear would rather pay someone to do the work which is one reason why they tend to stay away from high mileage cars.

I appreciate garages can do a good job but the charges to work on these cars are mental, its easy as Dest has shown to spend double what the car is worth just trying to keep one on the road.

OK. ive just read through this entire post. I joined this forum thinking im going to be the proud owner of a sweet s2, once ive sold my corado. I always thought that audis were reliable as it could get.

After reading through this im thinking do i still want one? Am i paying too much? Or is it a genuine bargain?

Here it is then. silver s2 with 20k on the clock, maybe 3 owners, mechanically sound (i think) just needs a little body work. I think its got all the toys apart from leather. In your "expert" opinions what would that be worth??

Dont break my heart peeps ive always loved this car and im going to buy it, good idea, right??

@elite - they are reliable - no worries there - its just when they get old/tired that things like bushes and such can be expensive jobs... or if the 'upgrade bug' bites you then deep pockets are required to feed the beast.
