    I'll look into it more when I get home tonight but I don't think the Avant tank does straddle the propshaft as much as it would seem. I'll dig through the workshop info and see what i can come up with. I'll pull up the numbers for the fuel pump tools too. I know they're not cheap but might be useful to get a set for my special tool library :mischeif: . (which reminds me I want my subframe tool back from Tom C)

    The pump does sit in the lowest point in the tank on the same side as the filler neck.

      @Lee,

      Looks like it will be fine for the avant's as well as the coupe's.
      But if when you are fitting it that it doesnt sit low enough you can fit in the same way doug & mark have. The reason that I didnt was because it puts alot more stress on the basket which may lead to it breaking in the long term.

        How does it put more stress on the basket? You cut it, so it is not stressed and use a cable tie to keep it inplace - if anything it keeps it more secure.

          Possibly, it was just when i did it and using the pictures of yours cutting grooves in the same places it seemed to put more stress onto the basket which is why i decided to do it slightly differently.

            I've had a look at the workshop info and aside from some covers the tank is as shown in the diagram below. It isn't a 'saddle' tank like the ones in later quattros and 4Motion cars. The area the pump fits in uses the same attachments as the coupe so I believe the fitment will be fine.

                Here is an exploded view of the standard pump setup (not S2 specific so ignore the fuel pipe attachments at the top of the pump)

                    Oh, OK. I just thought I saw parts of the tank either side of the prop when I was replacing that damn fuel filter. Looks like I'm in the group buy then! When are you ordering Greg? Are you waiting for more people or is that it? I'll send a cheque to your pops. Will I be getting a VAT receipt too?

                    Look where that PITA of a fuel filter is located. Designers were having a right laugh when they came up with that one.

                      I thought it was a saddle tank myself until I actually bothered to look on the computer.

                      They don't even list a procedure for changing the fuel filter. From the manual though apparently you can remove the tank without dropping the rear diff or driveshafts. Not sure I can work out how that would be achieved.

                          Well i'll have to pass Greg. Seems that the buyer for my carbon list decided not to buy them, so no money for me

                          Sorry for the trouble.
