This shell is very good indeed but I have dedicated what seems a lot of my life into the black one, its my car, done how I wanted and for that reason I will stick with using it and sell this one. Typically the big tunnels etc. in this are far nicer than the ones in my car but they will all work the same so I'm not that bothered, this car is also unarched and obviously needs a full respray which I have no interest in paying to have done again !

Some of the parts on this car I was still yet to buy, Throttle Bodies and dry sump setup, dash, seats, pedal box, ton of aeroquip etc is all handy to have and then there is £3500 worth of Ohlins suspension which are as good as money can buy so I will sell my Gaz suspension and swap onto those.

It wasn't a easy decision, although I had accumalated a lot of parts for it I would imagine it would be another year to get it finished.

If I'd of got the shell back sooner then maybe I would of had it looking more like a car by now and maybe not started looking for something else.

Anyway, I have replaced it with something slightly more unique !

Its a ex thunder saloon from back in the day.

Runs a dry sumped Cosworth YB, 8 injectors, T4, Motec M48 pro, 5 speed dogbox, AP 4 pots all round and some 12.5 x 16 rear and 10 x 16 front magnesium Minilites.

Should make a cracking track toy.

Some old pics from back in the day :

Thanks Chris, its a bit different !

The S2000 lump is up for sale for 5k if anyone is looking for one or knows someone after something like that for a kit car possibly. Its a reliable 255hp atmo engine, comes with everything except a ecu.

The shell once I have some upto date pictures will be around the 10k mark.

Most of the other parts are already sold.

Always preferred the handling of the 309 to the 205

Any more info / details on the car, history etc? Looks nuts.

Its a semi tube chassis built by SHP ( Sonny Howard ) back in 1991, rwd converted ofcourse. Massive tubs in the rear to get those rims in, fully caged ofcourse. Fuel cell and twin pumps in the boot, diff cooler and pump although I'm told that packed up a while back so will need to look into sorting that.

It ran a ex BTCC engine and gearbox back in the day, it now runs the modern equivalent, still Cosworth powered but uses a Glebe 5 speed dog box rather than the older syncro box they used back then.

It runs a Capri axle on the rear with a 3 link setup and then a Watts linkage, the front is double wishbone with modified uprights, it has bladed anti roll bars and Koni 3 way coilovers although they are old but work.

                    Engine spec is :

                    2 litre 16v Cosworth YB
                    Long studded 200 block
                    Stock crank and rods
                    4x4 pistons
                    WRC head gasket
Fully worked head by HT Racing
                    BD14 camshaft
                    8 Injector inlet
                    RS500 T4 Turbo
                    Titan dry sump kit
AP Twin plate 7 1/4 clutch with hydraulic clutch release
Motec M48 pro ecu with t/c, l/c etc..

Its currently running 1.7 bar so approx 460hp, you can see over 500hp with this setup though but I'd rather get used to the car before thinking of turning the power up !

Its got 330 x 36 mm AP 4 pots on the front and 300mm AP 4 pots on the rear so should stop well enough.

As for history, there isn't a huge amount about, Thundersaloons took off after the rule changes to the BTCC, it didn't last long though and a lot of unusual cars just dissapeared into the history books. Luckily for this car it was sold onto someone
who was keen to still use it but after 15 years he felt it was time to let it go.

Technically its the only in existance, there were 2 in the Thundersaloons but I don't believe the other was built by the same people. From what I hear the other was something to do with Fast Car magazine and run by 2 of the writers for it back in the day.

Lovin that 309. Came way close to building my own. Knew all the guys at fast car at the time and have thier build history somewhere. Even bought the moulds from them for the body work. plan was for a v6 twin turbo from the safrane in the back. Still feel like thats the car ive gotta build some day. infact i rember an advert for an XJ220 engine and box apparing and thot, hmmmm. How much u want for them mate? 20K! oh ill stick with my safrane engine!
If i can fine any of that info on it you want is scanned and ent over?

Ah cool, some good info there. I knew the Fast Car Pug ran a Manta 400 engine, there was also a Escort Cosworth with a XJ220 engine in it, there are a lot of pictures over on tentenths forum about the thundersaloons.

What kit did the Fast Car 309 run ? pictures would be great !
