Been a while since my last update. Done a few things to the car since my last update. Firstly i changed the brake pads on the car i went for a set of Textar which i'm glad i went for:

I have had another set of strut tops fail in a couple of thousand miles. I looked around at different options but the only one i fancied trying was standard strut tops with a set of Lago Blue strut top savers. The were easy to install and Lago Blue has been very helpful in answering any questions i had about them:

My alternator was not giving steady voltage. After investigating the pick up ring and brushes were badly worn. Parts were hard to find but i managed to source both a pick up ring and a set of brushes for the bosch alternator:

I noticed that the car was smoking on start up after it had been sitting a while. After cleaning the crank case breather system out and having no luck i did a compression test on the engine and each cylinder came out at about 11.5 to 12.5 bar:

I knew it would be the valve stem oil seals. I bought a kit to do the valve stems with the head in place. It took alot of patience but after a couple of days swearing i had all 20 valve stems replaced:

As you can see from the photo the valve stem seals were well worn:

While i was doing the valve stems i decided to replace the timing belt. I made a crank locking tool to get the bottom pulley bolt out:

only problem was that i couldn't for the life of me loosen the bottom pulley bolt. I ended up having to order a 3/4" breaker bar, get a bit of pipe on the end of that and me standing on it before i came loose:

As you can see in the photo someone had used locktite on it:

The reason i think for this is that the diamond washer was missing from the bottom crank bolt. This was causing the bottom crank pulley to rub. I had to find a diamond washer before i could fit the new billet pulley i had. I managed to find one:

While i was fitting the billet pulley i decided to fit a new water pump and pulley while i was in there:

    New belt:

    New water pump:

    New timing belt tensioner pulley:

    New thermostat:

I also took the opportunity replaced the hall sensor while i had the cam pulley off:

I then put the car back together and ran it for a few months instead of my of my motorbike. I noticed that i had an oil leak coming from the bottom of the bell housing. So i removed the gearbox and the rear crank seal was leaking. So i got the car back on the ramp and replaced that:

    The old one:

    The new one:

While in there i had space with the gearbox out to repair the rubber hoses that someone had used to patch the fuel lines. I has always bugged me so i removed the hoses and replaced them with copper pipe and compression fittings:

I also replaced the wastegate gaskets that were leaking while i had the downpipe off:

While the car was off the road i replaced all the CV boots on the back drive shafts and new exhaust hangers at the back. I decided to replace the engine, gearbox oil and spark plugs:

After the car being back on the road for a week or two i noticed the car had another leak. After a good look around i found that the washer on the hydraulic pressure sensor was leaking:

I managed to get a copper washer the right size from Eurocarparts that was the right size:

As some of you know i will be putting this car up for sale soon. I fell its time to move my attention to one of my other projects. I have BMW e36 thats been waiting 6 years to finish and i have got my Ducati track bike i'm looking at doing an engine and suspension swap on. I have had my ups and downs with this car as yous can see from my build thread over the years but i'm know someone will be getting a well sorted S2 whoever ends up with it!

Looks like you have been very busy! You seem to have covered all the things that go wrong with these cars. A well handy guide for anyone new to S2 ownership!

Respect for the matter of fact way you go about looking after your car - I like the way you just get on with stuff no matter how big a job it may be. 'leak under gearbox. Took gearbox off'

My job has a lot to do with my way of working. I'm a specialist technician in a hospital and deal with reactive maintenance on critical plant everyday. Doesn't matter how big or small the job is, just get it done.

Brilliant work. I can relate to your picture of getting the crank bolt undone. It was a pretty similar experience for me needed the extra scaffold pole too. Alot of progress made too.

Worst of it is you set a day aside to do the job. Then by the time you have to order tools or parts you didn't expect to need and you can be weeks before your done with a simple job!

Each it is one of those jobs that took me a week or more once the bits did arrive. I purchased a crank locking tool and that didn’t fit so had to wait on another one

                    • Been a while since my last update. Not had a massive amount going on with the car since my last update. After rebuilding the alternator a month after refitting it a lost voltage. I removed the alternator and i must have damaged the winding on it when fitting the pick up ring because the wire was snapped where it joins the pick up ring. I managed to get an alternator from Eurocarparts:

It was slightly different shaped but it fitted no problem. I changed the belt while i was in there to.
I had fitted a new battery to the car last year but it wasn't the best over the winter. It was still under warranty so i took it back and exchanged it for a new one:

I noticed the rear brake pads were getting low. I got the part number of the pads and ordered another set:

I decided to remove the 034 street engine mounts and 911 gearbox mounts and go back to the standard mounts. I will leave it up to a new owner if the want to fit them. I have left the 034 snub mount on the car:

Since owning the car the driver side door hinges were well worn. They are difficult to find good condition ones to replace them:

I managed to find a set in Germany. Because they are LHD the passanger side hinges ware less. I stripped the hinges down when i got them and they had next to no ware on the pin or spring:

I got them painted and fitted. The car has been running good other than that. Next to no oil usage since changing the valve stem oil seals. I've had alot of interest in the car but no buyer yet.
