Yeah i know. But this car will be stock as long as I own it. So no need to buy new rods. I think they will work just fine

Today i dragged myself out to the garage for some cleaning of the oil channels in the engine block. Lots of brake cleaner was used together with long thin brushes to get all loose stuff out. The previous owner did have a good washer so it is was wery little oil residue and stuff left. After cleaning the block I cleaned the oil channels on the crank shaft. Changed my damged piston to the best of the two i bought. Will check the weight on all pistons/rods assembly before i make the final assembly of the bottom end. Well, after that I measured the piston ring gap. The piston rings are made for the 1.8t I think. Bought from cp-s in Sweden. They were all about 0.35mm gap. Audi claimed wear limit to 1.0mm according to the workshop manual. New they should be in between 0.15 and 0.35mm. Well after that It was godnight. Next garage visit i will assemble the bottom end with crank/rods and pistons.

    Long time since last post.
Today i took the masking off and cleaned all the threads on the block. Took some time to do but feels good when putting together everything. Cleaned of the gasket surfaces a little bit with scotch brite. Next step is to clean all the oil channels, have some good brushes that i used on my other engine rebuild. Soaked the oil channels in WD40 so hopfully it will loosen up any burnt oil a little bit before i start with the brushes.

Here is some pictures from todays work:

I also got two used pistons, only need one so i will use the best of the two.

Today i sanded down the primer and put some coats of medium shiny black on the block. The black will be less shiny when dried up. A hell to get paint in every corner and shape of the block, but at least i think i covered it all. Helsps alot with gray primer. Oil pump is just there to cover the surface, will use my original pump later wich will be painted like the rest of the aluminium parts. Well not much more happend today, here's some pics of todays work.

Engine block painted, will be less shiny when dry:

    Hi!
Today was a good but hard day. Started with work (on the work) a couple of hours and then directly to the garage for work on the engine.
Took the bearings out of the engine after measurement. Then started to clean the block from loose paint and rust. It takes for ever but what do you do.. After that i masked up the block up for paint. With the vacation to USA next week i want to finish the painting before i go there. I managed to get the first coat of paint on the engine. Will let it dry until tomorrow, then sand it down and put the black paint on it tomorrow. Looking forward to the fun stuff, putting it all toghether. But cleaning and painting parts takes a lot of time. So some pictures to follow from the work done today.

Some stuff i painted last week:

Will post the result of the engine painting tomorrow! Now i'm going to take a beer or five

Been busy with all kind of stuff. But i have done some things to the car/engine. Blasted and painted some more parts. For exampel pulleys, brackets and some water/crank case piping. The aluminium parts have not been sendt to the painter yet. I will have to wait with that until i get back from vaccation in the USA. Today i picked up my engine block/crank and conrods from the engine machine shop. The block have been honed and resurfaced. All clearences have been measured and are in to the spec. The crankshaft has been polished on the bearing surfaces. Everything looks good. So this weekend i will hopfully be able to clean and paint the block so it will be ready for assembly when i get home from my vaccation. I have to do a cleaning of the oil channels and so before the final assembly takes place.

Dismantled the generator and glasblasted the stuff thats going to be painted. Tonight i also got all parts masked up for paint. Will leave it to the painter in a couple of weeks. Going to USA for vacation so i will have to wait until next paycheck to get the parts painted... Still waiting for my engine to get back from the engine machine shop. When i have the block back i will start with painting and cleaning of the block.
