Just a bit of wear and tear plus heat damage. Having to cut bits out and replace with good. Before I started, I had boost cut issues. Think I found the issue as behind the rubber insulator on the air intake sensor, the wires had fallen out completely after a previous bodge repair. Sensor itself test good which is a relief as they are hard to find and made of unobtainiumNothelle S2 Avant

So, while waiting for some new flag terminals I decided to have a look at the fuel lines. If you remember from when I put the engine in I just caught one pipe whilst jacking up the gearbox. Unfortunately it was the high pressure one (feed). I couldn't really see how bad it was but didn't want to take a chance. I decided to replace it. I've done quite a few of these now.
The damage wasn't actually that bad.
I found an old pulley that's really handy when making the tight bends.
And this new tool is brilliant at making flares. Don't forget the nut!
I had some heat resistant sleeving which is useful on the section near the exhaust. The original pipes didn't have this but it is on later Audi's. It's also useful where the pipes might rub against the body on the up into bay section.
All done.

So today I decided to fit my propshaft.
First I took the cv joints apart and cleaned them out. New grease and they are good to go.
I also took the opportunity to grease the centre joint.
And up it goes. I'm normally working on my own so have to come up with ways to do these things by yourself.
Also got the downpipe on.
And had a tidy up ready for the oil cooler. The heat shields are new.
The oil cooler is having a tidy up and shampoo before it goes back.

Thanks John. They are all looking great.
Back to the project.
The exhaust support for the gearbox was missing. Someone had used a clamp in its place and it wasn't pretty.
So, got my thinking head on and measured the tube diameter and found a log from the wood pile the same size.
And a strip of thick aluminium. The original clip is of similar design.
Came together nicely.
Now, onto the wires around the oil cooler. I had a look on 7Zap and it shows a hoop wire support bolted to the oil cooler. I happened to have a couple in my spares box (as you do) and it came together perfectly.
The oil cooler got fitted.
Then the new filters. You can't really prime the turbo filter due to its angle.
Then the alternator.
All the hoses have been sleeved where they may contact wires.
Then onto the pas pump and bomb. The bomb is new.
You may see she wet her pants a bit whilst I fitted the bomb. It's red!
Now I'm reliably informed that they did use red atf fluid for a while in the 1980's. I need to check this before I re fill. I would rather it was green as I have plenty here.
I seem to be missing my off side driveshaft heat shield. Anyone have one knocking about?

So I checked the handbook I had with the car and it says atf dexron. Mr Haynes also says the same. Had a hunt in my garage and found this.
I will need some more. The reservoir is huge! ……. And needs a clean.
As does the intercooler.
And radiator.
The back shroud is dead.
But lovely Mike in Scotland sent me his spare a couple of years ago which I had blasted and coated. Rip Mike.
The rad thermo switch plug was broken.
But I had a good spare.
I couldn't find a single boost hose that the rat chewed.
So I ordered a new set from Germany. I did try to arrange a group buy from Roose but I couldn't get enough interest.
Now my Aux rad is leaking if anyone has a spare.

Topping up the ATF.
Engine off, pump the brakes till the pedal goes hard. (Empty the bomb)
Then and only then, top up the fluid, IIRC it should be up to the screen.

Mine has been replated along with a bunch of engine bay stuff.

ATF knackered mine. It had it in when I bought it. It was as six years old at the time. Pipes, servo and bomb all dead in no time. Used the green hydraulic stuff ever since. My urs6 had it in too when I got it. Same pain. Including the rack!!Rob..
