My Ocianic Blue Ur restoration

I made up a new splash guard from tractor inner tube. Strange there is only one on the nearside on the Ur.




Tie rods were fitted. These failed quality control last week so have been stripped and painted again. There were one or two rust spots coming through.


And then drive shafts. All new cv joints.




And I got this from Rob on the forum. Very impressive copy of the original.


I'm waiting for my new boost hoses which are coming from Germany. I got stung this time with import duty. Cry.
They are in the Swansea Parcel Force depot for the weekend sadly.

All the bits that normally go rusty got a splash of copper grease.



And used my support the strut on step and carefully lower the car method to fit the struts.


Everything came together nicely. The SNR wheel bearing kits come with lovely new bolts and nuts passive galvanised.



Did a test fit on the splash guards auto doc sold me and surprise surprise, they don't fit. Rant

I got my thinking head on re front brake splash guards. Not easy to find and expensive. The main object of the guard is to keep the heat from damaging the abs sensor and lower ball joint boot. The guards sent by Auto doc, even with cutting weren't going to work.




Cut some templates from card.


Transferred to some 2mm aluminium sheet and cut to shape.


Then test fit with disc.


Final trim.


Etch primer and then satin black in the spray booth.


So while they were drying I thought I would finish the back brakes.
I found these new old stock pads on Facebook marketplace near me for £5!


The calipers and discs are new as are slide pins and bolts.


I'm short of one spring clip which holds the handbrake cable onto the caliper if anyone has a spare.

Also got new plastic caps for the abs sensors from Tradition. A little ceramic brake grease here.

What does the clip look like Dave? I'll have a look.

Decent ABS sensors are unicorn poo.
What are your cables like? Mine were rotten, the rubber sleeving was just falling off, so I re-wired them with screened signal cable and glue lined t gt eat shrink, they work perfectly.

Two abs wires were very good. The rear were not so good. Outer sleeve was starting to crack. I covered in good quality insulation tape. If they were worse, I do have abs cable I was going to use but I was reluctant to cut them. They came out fine.

Found a handbrake cable spring in my spares box. Happy days.
All the brakes got assembled.



I found these very nice new caliper carrier bolts for the front. Apparently they fit mk1 TT. Size is spot on.


Then we (I) bled the brakes and clutch.




Amazing that it only took 1.5 litres to do everything.
Brake shields looking good.


I had one little weep from the rear three way junction but a quick nip up and it seems dry now.

Not taking a big one like this again!

Anyway, back to it. Got all the new boost pipes fitted. Nice new clips.






Which then meant I could fit the Aux rad. My little home made bracket worked.


Then filled with water and G11 anti freeze. Nothing coming out (yet).

Then fitted the new HT leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm.



Next job is to put some petrol in the tank and test the new fuel pipes and injectors.

Those clips look suspiciously wide though.
And the TB microswitches should have flag terminals or you won't get the cover on over them

All are new stainless rolled edge boost pipe clips. Most Norma but two another make that came with the intake pipe. I think they will be fine and better than the zinc jubilee clips that were there before. I have the flag terminals to fit but haven't got around to it. That's probably why my cover is missing
