Welding thin metal is something that takes practice. You need a good mig welder and I find it easier to use a joggler and drop an oversized patch in rather than butt weld. Hopefully, it won't be too bad when you strip the sound deadening off.

Heat up the sound deadening with a heat gun and use a plastic scraper to remove it - that way you won’t damage the e-coat underneath. Use panel wipe or thinners to remove the adhesive residue

I’ve heard of dry ice being used to remove sound deadening , might be worth a try

I’ve read a little on the subject and it seems those are the most common methods for removing the sound deadening panels. Will try them and see what works best for me.

Finished up the POR15 process last weekend. Next up is sound/heat material.

After removing the sound deadening material

After the degrease and metal prep steps

Well done, doesn't look like a fun job removing all of that!

Thanks. Definitely not. I never tried the dry ice trick, because the heat gun and scraper worked pretty well for me. I figure the floor pan issue set me back a couple months (I work slow and don’t get as much shop time as I’d like).

Work had been keeping busy and out of town a lot in late 2020, but I have managed to spend some time on this project. Cleaned up the carpets. It’s not perfect, but much better than before. Rust stains are tough to get out.

It feels like I went 10 rounds with it, but the 7A harness has been removed. Could have used a couple more hands.

The "new" harness i have is from a 200 3B and I see a lot of people have routed their 3B harness through the hole for the AC lines due to how the 3B harness is built. However, I intend to keep AC and am considering cutting a new hole in the firewall somewhere on the passenger side (with a firewall grommet). I'd rather do this then have a bunch of wires that are either too long or too short. Plus, the driver's side area under the dash doesn't need any more wiring than it already has. Unless someone on here has an S2 3B harness they want get rid of.

Just a few updates. The 7A and 200 3B harnesses are 90% merged, just have a few splices to make in the car.

Engine is out...again. This time with the transmission. So, it’ll get a good cleaning. Working on the engine bay now to prep it for paint.

Battery tray is out and the wiring and new battery are in.

                          Couple updates...

Cleaned up some rust on the door sills. There used to be a guy on here that sold carbon fiber sills. Anyone know if that’s still an option?

Put a fresh coat of pain on the engine bay. Ready to start reassembly.

                            Very nice!

Just seen your battery in the boot, is that black polystyrene looking stuff a standard item?

I've never had one if so...

Yes, that’s an OEM piece that is under the carpet.
