Where did you order the tone ring from?
i was thinking about doing a v8 but i think ill go with something elseLeave a comment:

I THINK i have everything i need from a mechanical perspective except the tone ring for the speedometer (waiting 4 months now!) so attempting a "final" dry build. Going to get it all together and then do the final electrical work (connectors flying in from all over the world for that) and i can MAYBE try n fire it. It'll be a coupla weeks yet but possibly on the home stretch.

Express delivery from china. 3 variants of my upper rad connection. Kinda wanna redesign the lower one now.

That corner got crowded.....

Ran out of tube to splice the high pressure side but i have a plan to get from the evaporator to condenser and added a service port. Gonna put the 2 pressure sensor on the section that runs under the headlight to the condensor. I need to clean up the saddle i cut off the tube for the low side service port, then i'll get that on to the original low side pipe.
It'll take time to sort and i need to get more consistent with my joints (3 outta 4 went perfect) but for the first time since i got the v8, i can say definitively that AC will happen which makes me (and my wife lol) happy.Leave a comment:

New skill unlocked..... i is a bit uglier but it was the first one that worked sooooo.
20260307_102631.jpg
I got a leak free joint after about 20 attempts..... upon success, i decided to proceed directly to level 20 and see if i could braze it to a fitting. Success.

So, AC is now feasible. I am gonna set it aside for a minute tho as i need to do more measuring and getting more appropriate materials. I need metric drill bits as imperial produces too much slop (tubing supposed to slip in each other but tolerances were off... stupid chinesium) and i think i wanna use propane as map burns too hot and easily melts the aluminum if not careful.

Took the day off to get a buncha stuff done, one of which was to go to the scrap yard as by chance they had a coupla touaregs in there that could donate their intake manifold to my racecar. While there, i took the opportunity to snag a bunch of connectors but more importantly, a pile of AC line ends and connections that i can use IF, by the end of the weekend, i have figured out the whole tube brazing thing. Still waiting for good ol amazon to show up though with the materials.

The hope for the weekend is figure out how to braze the aluminum tubing, finish one more brake line and run the last of the fuel lines and then i THINK it's all electrical.Leave a comment:

So, first attempt at brazing aluminum tobes together failed. I think it's the rods i got from crappy tire.... they said they had flux but i don't think it was enough. Got some better material on the way and flux so hopefully it flows better.
Once i figure out how to do that properly i should be able to put it together. It's gonna take a few days to get the material so now it's the happy task of listing all the electrical connectors i need....Leave a comment:

Well, relaxing is boring i guess. Got a coupla hours in this afternoon. Uneeded holes in the firewall filled and got the new one needed drilled and i got the ps lines all secured.

This week i concentrate on figuring out ac and make a final list of all the electrical connecters i need.Leave a comment:

For about 2 days, felt productive cuz things were actually coming together 20260228_083105.jpg 20260228_083123.jpg but as a result of that, i removed everything from the bay....again.... hopefully the last time before i prep for paint???
20260228_142810.jpg I will merge the abs, lighting and ac harness into one grommet. That means i have 11(!) Holes to weld up on the firewall part of me thinks it will be significantly easier to just cut a large piece out???
Also decided to clean up and install bits i had kicking around. One of which was the oil filter. Took a look thru the old one (date code 2021!). Looks like they put gravel in there?!?! Wtf... NOT sparkly though.

Gonna try and actually relax this weekend now and then get stuck into welding up the firewall...ie i am procrastinating cuz that job is going to suuuuuuuckAttached FilesLeave a comment:

Thanks! I was confused as the manufacturer put the bleed nipple in the wrong port on what turns out to be both of my left rear calipers lol. Ordered the right side which should get here next week. Did a quick check on my clutch line to confirm that my plan for it will work and i got a union so i can make the passenger front line 2 pieces to make it easier for installation. I have to redo the drivers front as i routed it through the wrong hole into the wheel well... damnit, i was pretty happy with it too lol. I wrap all that up this weekend and then break out the welder one more time to un-swiss cheese the firewall....and i should probably do something about the battery mount as well lol.

Bleed screw needs to be high, therefore spring is on the bottom (these drwgs. show the LH side):

So 2 years after i ordered them, finally getting to put rear calipers on. Only to find i have 2 of the same.... d'oh! The question now is what side they go on. Is the ebrake mechanism on top or the bottom side of the caliper when installed. I think that 1: i have the caliper on the wrong side and 2: the bleeder is in the wrong port. The brake hose i purchased at the same time and marked rear seems too short.... something's off lolLeave a comment:

Got the brake lines more or less sorted today, there will be some small tweaks when i get more clips. Just gotta do the clutch line and find hardware for the rear calipers (and maybe some pads at some point lol) and the hydraulics are sorted. That said, if i had half a brain and a union on hand, i'd split the passenger front line in 2.
But then i gotta blow it apart again for what i hope is the final round of welding on the body

My anxiety couldn't deal with THAT hockey game today so i went out to the garage and started working on the heat shields. Ugly but they do a good job separating the cats for the rest of the stuff. Plus i managed to maintain a gap in the corners for the fuel and brake lines to run. I need to trim a bit more and rivet some sides together still but with luck, sorted by the end of the day. Brake and clutch lines to follow. After that there's SLIM possibility the engine stays in till i try to fire it up??? Gonna try and sneak off to the local scrap yard and see what i can do for AC plumbing later this week.
