i have MANY error codes and the throttle pedal does nothing but it's ALIIIIIVVVVVVE!!!!! (and friggin loud!!!)
i am waiting for an axle to get here from europe and it should arrive by the end of next week. hopefully by then i have sorted the throttle pedal and the clutch. the goal is to be able to drive to the dead end of my road and back. if i can do that, then i can FINALLY get serious about paint. -
Cars are fun....

Got the engine out this morning and turned on the pump to see what was leaking. The an fittings were finger tight
No leaks now.... i have a couple slight ones at the rear but not enough to stop it from working and not a danger because the exhaust terminates at the transmission at the moment....
Will try again this weekend.

No ressurection of this car for easter
engine must be pulled and i need to make new sections of hardline as the fittings don't seem to be sealing on the old bits that remain from the v6. Only a few hours work but it'll take the week to get it done.

Well, she decided one last kick in the teeth before trying to fire it up. Fuel line is leaking at the most IMPOSSSIBLE place to reach with the engine in. So now i get to decide if i swear a bunch and get bloody knuckles and tighten or do i just throw my hands in the air and remove the engine one more time....
Garage is now airing out lol

I turn on high beam, the shutter activates and i have high beam. I turn off high beam, the shutter doesn't return, so it stays high beam.
As for the fuel pump, no bueno. I got it to work properly twice. The second time it was with all my bodges fixed. I have tested the circuit from the ecu to the pump and it checks out every time. So it's the ecu not grounding that pin. At least not every time. This leads me to think it's an immo thing? I am gonna pute the rest back together and manually operate the pump and see if it'll run. But i'll do that tomorrow. I am too fed up now lol.Leave a comment:

I take it with the hids when you turn high beam on main beam turns offLeave a comment:

Figured it out. I was losing 2.5v between constant and switched power in the ignition switch. I have a bunch of them, swapped one in and voila, things working as they should. So now i gotta undo all my workarounds and then move forward. But now i'm just frustrated, so that'll be tomorrow lol. Thank god for a nice long weekend lol.Leave a comment:

So, i suspect the ecu has failed??
Yesterday, the ecu power relay wasn't working as it shpuld according to wiring diagrams. It should be a ground switched trigger but the relay wasn't triggering. So i changed it to a gound on one side and switched power at the fuse block and all was well and thought nothibg more of it. Today i wanted to confirm the fuel pump would be triggered. I was going to roll the key on and the ecu SHOULD prime the pump. It did not.
This time i decided to investigate.
Again this is a ground switched wire. The way i understand it is that at all times, voltage between the pin and ground, should be 0v. When the circuit is not triggered, there should be no continuity and when triggered (roll key forward to prime) there ahould be continuity to ground for a moment.
Is that correct?
I have no continuity in any case as well as a constant ~3v. (Between pin and ground)
The result is that the fuel pump relay does not trigger. The same way the relay yesterday didn't trigger.
i gave checked wiring grounds and ecu ground pins to ecu case and no issues.

Wiring seems to be happy now. Cross your fingers guys, by the end of the weekend it'll make some noise?Leave a comment:

Haven't done the thermoswitch but i did check vagcom. Success except the ecu power relay circuitry doesn't seem to be acting as per the wiring diagram....or there's something else going on.... i am gonna try to hook one wire to switched power vs constant and see if that makes it happier.
upon that verification, it's time to button it up, purge the fuel system and give it a whirl....Leave a comment:

So, got the lights all working as they should. Xenons work but high beams are a bit of a mess as is the interaction with DRL so for the purposes of getting it thru a safety in the future, will use the candles that are the halogens. Something about a diode to make the high beams work righ and i found info on drl removal. That's a future problem.
tomorrow i need to extend the rad thermoswitch and then i'll plug in the ecu and see if vagcom can read it (worked on the bench so should be fine) and the abs module. Once that is confirmed, i DID get some fuel on the way home from work today..... it may happen this weekend?????Leave a comment:

Omg, the going backwards never stops! The only wiring things to sort now are the thermoswitch on the radiator and the tail lights. I got down to 1 bulb misbehaving. Traced it to a corroded pin on the bulb monitoring module for the rear lights. But of course i am using the cabby fuse block for my setup as the coupe one was too far gone and brittle. So i can bypass this module entirely..... but more friggin soldering!
may do a moderately late night and get that done. With luck, that's IT and can push for the test fire this long weekend. I want to get the wiring done beforehand because if i get it fired up first, then i am likely to half *** the remaining electrical testing and repair lolLeave a comment:

I got to the bottom of my cooling system leak.
i disconnected the coupler from the hose and put some plugs in tested, no leaks. What's happening is that the hose is pulling the coupler a bit cockeyed. So either i need to figure out how to make the coupler immobile, or i need to make the hose not pull on it.
Not sure how i will go just yet....will first try to take stress off it but there may be another print required that has some additional mounting points to make it rigid.
Busy week this week but i am going to try and finish the electrical at least. If i do that i can at least run it for a few seconds this weekend maybe.
Edit: went out at lunch with lotsa wd40 and force, i got it on with the thicker o-ring and voila, no leaks. FinallyLast edited by ottawa coupe; 31 March 2026, 20:55.Leave a comment:

Got another hour last night. Things are starting to wake up. All of the switches in the dash work now. I have a few failed connections at the rear lights to sort and i still need to test the door wiring and hvac.
I think i am gonna try and get the aux guages working too for peace of mind, i just dunno where to tap in to for oil stuff...
And i got the hidzzzzzz working

Maybe try to start it this weekend????Leave a comment:

Got a few solid hours in the shop this morning and knocked a bunch off the to do list.
The car passed the smoke test and it will spin the engine! Super happy about that. I now need to dig thru a bunch of stuff and do a full system check. Ecu was not plugged in either.
