  • So, just cuz i needed to feel good about this lol

20240502_214143.jpg i like the general direction it's heading.... something something it needs to be one colour lol.....

Seals came for the steering rack today. So after i got the kids to bed, quickly knocked this out.

    20240502_213411.jpg

Wasn't a terribly fun job i must say. The shaft seal is not inspiring confidence. It's teflon and requires significant deformation to fit. I hope i didn't mess it up....

If anyone has a leaky rack, this is where i got my kit:

Heater box this weekend is the most i will be able to do for the next little bit i think.

      • That will look good...very unique, which is a good thing in my book. I've been kicking around the idea of wrapping my CQ.

        • Thanks, we'll see what the future brings. The colour change idea is as a result of the local paint supplier quoting an insane cost for pearl white. But given how expensive everything paint related is, this might not represent much savings lol.

I wonder if i can get paint shipped to ogdensburg ny where i have a PO box lol. May be a reasonable alternative.

          • Right, so the s6 is more or less sorted, a pad/rotor change can be done in the driveway. So, the coupe is in the shop.... temporarily. Got all the stuff that's not going back on immediatly on the shelves and in boxes.

            20240520_154325.jpg 20240520_154332.jpg

The next jobs are to actually get the hvac box done (packed the car away before i realized i need the bits i had packed away lol), get the brackets that i got from the cabrio welded into the engine bay and deal with getting the cabrio dash in to the coupe (mounted much differently). Then the engine comes out again and i get on with actual bodywork.

But that will be inturrupted by my wife's vehicle most likely for brakes. It's going in for service this week, they're most likely going to say the brakes are shot (they are lol) and i am not feeling terribly rich right now so i'll do them myself i suppose. Also helping a friend out with his pos nissan and try to get his AC sorted for the summer...

Oh ya, i've also got a massive landscaping issue to deal with at the end of june.... fun times

            • Ignore the actual finish quality if you can see it, i spent less than an hour on prep. And we're talkin bout rattlecans for the moment lol.

              Interesting colour

i have paint stripper so i may use it on the other fender and try again. at least that way i won't have sanding marks all over the place lol.

i may have to change the title of this thread lol

              • used up the last of the clear i had and put it out in the sun.

i'm warming to this i must say.

i must reiterate, pretty much no panel prep hence the horrific orange peel! it will be done better on the actual car lol

                • Played some more this afternoon between meetings. Wet sanded a small section and cleared it. Put it in sunlight before it orange peeled again and looked at it. Very neat indeed.

Wife took a look and i have spousal agreement ( ).

Looks like we have a winner here. Going to do a full wetsand and buff (to try and get a semblence of a proper job lol) over the next few days and confirm.

                        • All my other mechanical nightmares are dealt with so i got the car back in the shop this afternoon. First up was the abs unit bracket tacked in place.

                          20240602_153454.jpg

One bracket on the other side and then a little tab for the coolant reservoir to go. By next weekend the engine will be out again for the forseeable future.

                          • Got the engine bay brackets in and engine out today.

Now comes the tedious part of smoothing it all out ready for priming....

                            • Dashboard mounting sorted. One more bracket for the glovebox and it's sorted i think. The drivers side was easy as all the extra holes were already there, just needed rivnuts. The passenger side needed all the holes drilled for what was the airbag support. Speaking of, that is a source of frustration. I could have SWORN i dissected the passenger airbag such that i kept the mounting bracket for it. But of course i can't find it now. So i'll have to fabricobble something together so i can mount the gutted bag to the dash securely.... good times.

                              • What are you guys doing for antennas now? The original fuba is long FUBARED (if you know you know lol).

I COULD weld up the hole in the roof at the risk of warpage, but what are the alternatives nowadays?

I think i am done with the b4 retrofitting now. I believe i am gonna take a break from the thinking work and just go through the bins of parts and clean everything so they aren't so horrible to handle from now on. Swapping the original struts back on so the coils stay nice n tidy. i'll probably be pretty sparse with the pics for a while as a result. Weather seems like it actually wants to give us a proper summer this year so lotsa sanding and manual labour ain't happening lol. Priority will be having pints by the pool instead!
