    Hmmmm.

Rears fit no problem. Fronts are tight. I may decide to work my spare set of fenders and get both painted and decide later? The only fat fives i have seen of late are still attached to the car they came with....so close lol. Only 30kms from home too..... must be patient...

      Decisions decisions....

merlin on the left, byzanz on the right. Before i sprayed, i thought merlin was a forgone conclusion. Pretty sure byzanz takes it.... (ZERO fender prep, just primed over whatever surface was there)

      20260825_155154.jpg

And did some more poking at the wheels. Suuuuper tight fitment up front. Flirting with stretched tires i would think....which are pretty stupid in my opinion. Hmmmm

That is exactly the color choice I am looking to make for my sedan.
Leaning towards byzanz because of the rarity and period correctness.

Got the clear on it last night and this morning and put it out in the sun

              20260826_132745.jpg 20260826_132753.jpg 20260826_132750.jpg

The wife prefers byzanz too. I must admit pre clearcoat it was hands down the winner. But with clear and in the sun, i am firmly back on the fence..... arrrrgh. The byzanz is certainly more subtle tho, which may be what wins in the long run.

I gotta get a wiggle on this now. I've got a minor medical procedure in 2 weeks suddenly and supposedly 4-6 weeks till i can do labour again. About when i expect my window will open at the body shop.

I have an evening's worth of welding and softline work to truely finish the AC, i want to weld up the antenna hole in the roof. I also want to find an appropriately sized tire for the 8.5" wheels and determine once and for all if i need to do any fender work. Or indeed if these wheels are possible at all. And in orser to save some $$ at the bodyshop, sand down the primer....

Oh, and remove the drivetrain and swap suspension....

You're still working on the car? Long time ago we were shortly in touch about audio upgrades, but never got to see it.

Nice to see the progress again and share that with us! I'd vote byzanz as well. Such a nice color.

About the fat 5 wheels: they are from a slightly later period. So although I like them a lot, is there not an older wheel that would be to your liking? Ofcourse the Bolero's come to mind, however not sure if those are to be had in Canada...

Yes. Currently still keeping the ABC alive to be able to keep driving it until the VR6 swap.
Need to decide if a full paint job or the engine swap gets priority.

That was the time I was still on audiforum.nl when it was a fun forum. I was planning on attending a meeting back then.
For me audiforum.nl is all about who has the best lease car, so I lost interest and found this forum where the oldies still get attention.
There are a lot of pictures in my build topic though.

That's what got me looking at byzanz lol

I've got boleros on my s6. Frankly not sure how they ended up here, found them on marketplace in toronto advertised as q5 wheels lol. For $250.

I got there pretty damned fast.

Ya, i dunno if i am going to go thru the cost and effort to figure out if these 18s will fit. I know the b5 avus will fit and look ok. The tires will be a very low profile for the crappy roads here! Will test fit the boleros as they are the same specs as the 17" fat fives i'm really after.... we'll see....

Heavy fabrication is done. Ac tubes made. I have a few mounts to add/strengthen but right now the engine is in the way. With luck that is sorted by the end of the weekend and i only need about an hour's swearing to finish the aluminum welding lol.

Will call the bodyshop hopefully end of next week and maybe i can skip the line a bit??

Disassembly complete. But more importantly, cutting and welding FINALLY done! I have some cleanup on the rad support to do but no more myteries to solve....

I am gonna talk to the paint shop tomorrow n see where things are. I am quite happy with the quality of the rattlecan paint i got for the trial, and the finish it provided. Given that in the end, with such a large engine, you really only see the top of the strut towers and about 4" of the top of the frame rail. I may decide to save him time and me money by rattlecanning the engine bay where the quality of finish is less critical. If i order the paint tomorrow, there is a small chance i get it by the weekend. Regardless, i can do the prep labour now and i am pretty sure i can hold a rattlecan after my surgery lol.
