I'm trying to source you a copy of the factory schematics. I should reply back within the next day or so.

I see you've had a very helpful reply from MJ (
) on the D2 forum.
Reading that reminded me it's a 2-in-1 unit, i.e. parallel senders, which of course communicate directly with the ECU.
I vaguely recall now when researching my problems (mentioned briefly above) that VCDS shows both sensors individually.Comment

I've got the factory diagram. It just doesn't capture reality as well as it does everywhere else. I am now wondering if i am to ignore the wires coming out of the module and use the connector as the reference.
In other news, i was relieved of a great number of dollars this morning but i have 2 reconditioned heads keeping warm in my basement now. I am gping to fpcus on getting the wiring done over the holidays before i dig back into that.1993 UrS4...aka the rocket powered living roomComment

I could show you a diagram of the female T6 connector which gives the pin numbers if that helps you?

Thanks, i have no issues with the pins on tbe connector, they are numbered. It that the wire colours between the module and connector do not match diagram. Mikki is gonna look at some body harnesses she's got this weekend n give me a hand.
Made some more connections to the coupe side of things. Been working on cruise control. It's nice because the wiring at the switch looks to be the same. But i don't think it'll be that easy. The ecu controls cruise vs a separate module. I can get everything sorted EXCEPT vehicle speed. In the coupe, the dash creates a speed signal for things like diff lock and cruise and radio volume. It's a dedicated wire. On the s8, the dash cluster creates the signal but then puts in in canbus. I no haz d2 cluster thus no canbus. I can get cqnbus converters to get the tach signal OUT of canbus but i can't find anything to get the right speed signal IN....
And because we all like pictures....

I think you might find cruise control just TOO difficult given the way it works. The PF engine had a separate module that physically connected to the throttle cable, but you can't do that on a "fly-by-wire" system. I had to replace it on my old (now defunct) S8 long long ago and IIRC it was deep down in the ECU box!
Back on the throttle actuator pinout, I'd probably get my multimeter out and check resistances between pins (including while moving the mechanism) to confirm the circuit diagram. But equally I've no doubt the wiring diagram is correct and MJ will confirm that.Comment

Yeah, i may give up on cruise. I will make all the connections i can for now. As it stands, it'll be the speed signal that i'm missing. If i stumble across one cheap enough, late b5 and c5 clusters look as tho they would fit in the b3/4 dash? Maybe i'll pick one of those up and see if that'd work. In the meantime, gotta make the rest of the connections and set up relays for injectors, coils, and o2 heaters. Looks like there's only 1 pin on a b3 fuse block for that stuff but i need 3 20a circuits.... don't feel like burning the car down so i will have to sort that out another way lol.
As for testing the actuator, i could do as ypu suggest, but i am not smart enpugh to know what the results would mean. We'll see what mikki can sort before i do something silly.1993 UrS4...aka the rocket powered living roomComment

I THINK i have all connections sorted, except for 4 additional relays i need to pick up that will power the higher current items. I just don't trust running all the injectors, coils, o2 heaters and all the other solenloids off one modestly sized pin on an 35 year old fuse block.
And the throttle module.
I'm off for christmas now and i'm cautioisly optimistic i'll have it working before i go back to work. It'll be QUITE messy tho as i have not fitted it to the car yet so wire lengths are all over the place...1993 UrS4...aka the rocket powered living roomComment

Ecu back from getting immo removed so i'll get the wiring finished and tested over the holidays.
I saw something recently that got be thinkin about headlights. A projector retrofit for the crappy north american headlights. Unsure if it will work well thru the glass but $30 from amazon sure beats >2500 for rs2 lights.... of course the reflector adjusters broke so i gotta glue those back together before i can finish..

It all fits.

Can't test just yet because i didn't read the fine print. I need an HID bulb as the projector doesn't have a ground point nor a proper mounting base for a regular H1 bulb. Another $35 on amazon.... i am certain there will be shortcomings with this exact setup as it's the cheapest chinesium i could find, this is just proof of concept. But if it throws even 75% of the light out of the projectors on my s6, i'll say there's something here worth exploring.1993 UrS4...aka the rocket powered living roomComment

(*^%&*&%^&. amazon fails me. kit arrived but bulbs are wrong. i hafta wait a week for correct ones. at least i hope they will be correct

I continue my ride on the struggle bus....
Tried to power up the harness this morning. No magic smoke but almost as frustrating, no activity from the ecu side of the equation.
And them my multimeter died.
The beatings will continue until morale improves....
Edit: had one wire wrong on my relay board, ground instead of positive. The ecu is awake, no smoke anywhere. Vcds cable blinking green and vcds comms test is positive, but no comms with ecu....
edit edit: google suggests the ecu got bricked as a result of improper immo defeat....fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.Last edited by ottawa coupe; 27 December 2025, 23:19.1993 UrS4...aka the rocket powered living roomComment

Maybe?? I dunno, i had to get the immo deleted for the 3.6 vr6 i put into my racecar. Same shop as well.
I built up a standalone harness to eliminate the mess on my table as the cause and no change. Vcds cable indicates all is well but no comms.
The shop that did the work is away for a coupla weeks yet so i will have to wait to see what they do. However there's a guy down in pennsylvania who specializes in modifying the ecus for manual swaps. I intended to get him connected to my ecu remotely to do that work once the immo was sorted. I spoke to him about his ability to resurrect mine if i sent it to him as a backup plan. He informed me he can just supply me a modified unit for a not absurd price. I wish i had known that previously as i woulda just bought from him.
We'll see how it shakes out with the shop here and if all else fails, will buy from him.
In the meantime, i am working on cleaning up a few details in the engine bay and subframe before i unwrap all my engine bits.
I found a 3.89 rear diff for my s6 so i may yet use it's 01e in this as i am not entirely satisfied with my mount for the 02x but the 01e mounting may screw up my exhaust plan. Once i have the engine back together i'll give it a closer look.1993 UrS4...aka the rocket powered living roomComment

Not aimed and the mounting is not as solid as i would want yet but.
