Haven't done the thermoswitch but i did check vagcom. Success except the ecu power relay circuitry doesn't seem to be acting as per the wiring diagram....or there's something else going on.... i am gonna try to hook one wire to switched power vs constant and see if that makes it happier.
upon that verification, it's time to button it up, purge the fuel system and give it a whirl....
Yesterday, the ecu power relay wasn't working as it shpuld according to wiring diagrams. It should be a ground switched trigger but the relay wasn't triggering. So i changed it to a gound on one side and switched power at the fuse block and all was well and thought nothibg more of it. Today i wanted to confirm the fuel pump would be triggered. I was going to roll the key on and the ecu SHOULD prime the pump. It did not.
This time i decided to investigate.
Again this is a ground switched wire. The way i understand it is that at all times, voltage between the pin and ground, should be 0v. When the circuit is not triggered, there should be no continuity and when triggered (roll key forward to prime) there ahould be continuity to ground for a moment.
Is that correct?
I have no continuity in any case as well as a constant ~3v. (Between pin and ground)
The result is that the fuel pump relay does not trigger. The same way the relay yesterday didn't trigger.
i gave checked wiring grounds and ecu ground pins to ecu case and no issues.
Figured it out. I was losing 2.5v between constant and switched power in the ignition switch. I have a bunch of them, swapped one in and voila, things working as they should. So now i gotta undo all my workarounds and then move forward. But now i'm just frustrated, so that'll be tomorrow lol. Thank god for a nice long weekend lol.
I turn on high beam, the shutter activates and i have high beam. I turn off high beam, the shutter doesn't return, so it stays high beam.
As for the fuel pump, no bueno. I got it to work properly twice. The second time it was with all my bodges fixed. I have tested the circuit from the ecu to the pump and it checks out every time. So it's the ecu not grounding that pin. At least not every time. This leads me to think it's an immo thing? I am gonna pute the rest back together and manually operate the pump and see if it'll run. But i'll do that tomorrow. I am too fed up now lol.
Well, she decided one last kick in the teeth before trying to fire it up. Fuel line is leaking at the most IMPOSSSIBLE place to reach with the engine in. So now i get to decide if i swear a bunch and get bloody knuckles and tighten or do i just throw my hands in the air and remove the engine one more time....
No ressurection of this car for easter engine must be pulled and i need to make new sections of hardline as the fittings don't seem to be sealing on the old bits that remain from the v6. Only a few hours work but it'll take the week to get it done.
Got the engine out this morning and turned on the pump to see what was leaking. The an fittings were finger tight
No leaks now.... i have a couple slight ones at the rear but not enough to stop it from working and not a danger because the exhaust terminates at the transmission at the moment....
i have MANY error codes and the throttle pedal does nothing but it's ALIIIIIVVVVVVE!!!!! (and friggin loud!!!)
i am waiting for an axle to get here from europe and it should arrive by the end of next week. hopefully by then i have sorted the throttle pedal and the clutch. the goal is to be able to drive to the dead end of my road and back. if i can do that, then i can FINALLY get serious about paint.
so, 1 thing fixed. i now have a throttle pedal. luckily in my credit card exercising in the fall, i purchased 2 throttle pots. of course the one i put in the car was a dud....
now if i can get the clutch sorted i have half a chance at it being a driver next weekend.
And now that it has a functioning throttle, it idles nice n low. Holy hell does it sound beastly with open pipes. I have to wear headphones.....

Right, so today's progress wasn't very big. Replaced the throttle pot, got the e brakes working and dealt with a fuel leak on the return line. I will have others to deal with later as the issue is i didn't flare the hard lines where they meet the rubber as i didn't have a tool for 8mm line. I do now. There are a few weeping ever so slightly.
The biggest frustration is i STILL don't have a full clutch. I replaced the master and put a remote bleed on the slave (which took FOREVER to fit and crushed my hand doing so lol) and still only half a pedal. I'll keep working on it i guess but i should be able to get down the road this weekend.... maybe....
I have ordered a new slave but there is ZERO chance at replacing it with the engine in the car and i am NOT taking it out till after i drive it lol.
At this point all i need to do is tuck wires outta the way of the pedals, build the 4th axle when it gets here friday and keep bleeding the snot outta the clutch. Maybe get it to 3/4?????
Add another idiosyncrasy to the list... adjusted the car such that the rear is a few inches higher than the front. Tried it, got a few bubbles out but still not a full pedal. Walked away for a couole hours. Just tried it again as i was passing by it. Full clutch travel and feel. I probably need to bleed it a wee bit but at least i've got a clutch now. So i just need the axle from ebay and it looks like i've got a driver... if only to the end of the street....
