Seat bases arrived this evening. Sooooo clost to bolting right in. But no lol.
There's a beefy pin on the bottom of both sliders that slots right into tbe base. Very handy. Howver the pins for the slider adjustment sit almost as deep and the height adjustment "cylinder" sits below that plane too. Also complicating things is the rear mounting hole is half off the plate too. The biggest issue is the front mounting holes on the seat are at a 45⁰ angle. I can't simply bash them flat as the slider has ribs bent into it too so flattening it will distort the slider.
basically, i will have to make a 5-10mm riser/adapter to get these two mated. I will have to decide if i cut/weld to my brand new and spendy bases or figure out how to not do that. The material thickness of the base would test the limits of my 120v welder. As i think more, this seems potentially like a job for the mill to work out...
i am going to set the seat in the car tomorrow and see how it feels. I need to put power to them to tilt them back a bit first.
not bolt in, nor did i think they would be, but tantalizingly close!

Well, the other door didn't need much work in the end, finished it just now. not going to install them right away because the seat bases arrive tomorrow and it'll be easier to test without doors obviously.
Also, i realise i need to make some sort of frame for the rear seat delete situation.Leave a comment:

Second door and hood hinges started. I had briefly hoped this might be finished today but a couple of pinholes around the anchor points for the lower trim and a couple of dings i didn't see earlier say i need to take some time with this one. Still, it'll be done by the end of the week if not sooner.

I would like to say that prepping the factory paint is SO much easier and less time consuming than the very thick paint i have been dealing with to this point. Door panel took an hour to scuff, clean and get the first layer of primer on.....

Seat bases have shipped, arrive next week.
In the meantime, started on a door, it should be primed and back on the car by the end of the weekend.

The goal is doors done by christmas, rad support and hood by new years. Really want to get this stuff done asap as it's so dusty. Once sorted, i will finally be buckling down and figuring out the whole cnc mill thing. Fingers crossed.Leave a comment:

Ebay is littered with covers for good prices. Unknown how good the fit is at this time but my standard will be lower than one of those numbers matching concours competing porsche owners lol. Heck, if i find jist one matching drivers seat for a decent price, that will work too.
the way i see it is that no matter which way i go for a properly comfy seat, i would have to get the seat bases (ordered last night). These seats were 100CAD.... on par with a few lawn chairs in these parts lol. Will fit these and either find a nicer pair or get new covers, depending on what i find later.Leave a comment:

They do look comfy. Are there a lot of choices, when it comes to seat covers for those? That is the main reason for the choice of seats in my coupe.Leave a comment:

And i bought the porsche seats this afternoon. I think they are gonna work really well and are SO much more comfy than the mk3 seats i have or any clapped out b3 seat i would find. Gotta order the seat bases and will have to figure out decent quality covers to replace these as there's the obviously damaged one but cracks in both.

Well, hatch should have its second coat of primer after lunch and by the end of the day, back on the car for now. The nice milestone here and that this concludes getting thru the crappy paint job. I am now dealing exclusivly with the cabby panels with oem paint, so it should be much faster to get prepped due to being thinner.
it ain't much to be positive about but i am grasping at straws to keep motivated here lol

So, it's days like this i really wish this was done and on the road.....

Maybe next winter??
At any rate, did the finicky work and got the inside of the hatch sanded. My fingers hurt....no machine here! Cautiously optimistic this is the worst of it? Tho now that i think of it, the rad support isn't gonna be much fun either....

Well, while I did manage to get a drill bit to drill thru the nub of the screw, I was not able to unthread it. Luckily though, those furniture inserts work well enough. I say we'll enough because I guess the pitch wasn't the same and it got cross threaded at the end and just as I was just about in, the internal hex portion cracked and stripped. Luckily it is in deep enough and straight enough to work. If one were to try and replicate, maybe drill the hole out a smidgen and maybe heat the insert so it sorta melts it's thread into the hatch??
at any rate "fixed".Leave a comment:

I don't need to tell you to make sure you get the drill bit centered of course. Best of luck with it.Leave a comment:
