I know that pedal is more compact but i know precious little about the v8 and how it runs. That pedal works on a c5 s6 and has the same throttle body as the s8 engine i am using but i decided to play it more cautiously and use the d2 setup as i know it is made for the ecu i am using.

Got some pipes and a couple of v-bands today to start on the exhaust. I think though my first step will be to put it all back in the car and place the cats on some temp brackets as they are the key to the situation. Once that's sorted, i'll pull it all back out and connect the dots. This will be practice for the same task on my s6 this winter.

so, having to change tack once again. the tdi 01e for the s6 is just not going well. I cannot find a 3.89 rear end to save my life at all now..... so that means i will not be swapping the s6 transmission into this. i have found an 02x really cheap nearby and i am looking into that at the moment. i am taking a look at it tomorrow night. i think i have most of my questions answered as to how it goes in but i am not sure about the axles. there seems to be a "correct" pair of axles that will slot right in but i have not been able to figure out where they come from. can someone please educate me on what axles will work?

                thanks.

Right, back on track, sorta. Got an 02x today (for dirt cheap). Mated it to the engine. Not entirely sure if i have made my life esier or harder, especially for exhaust. Need to make some temp mounts to see if i will be able to use the 02x mount or if i need to come up with something completely different....

Another in a lengthening line of points with no return....

Chopped the trans mounts off the front subframe. The plan is begining to form....

So, gearbox is supported, i need to fully weld it and brace some more. But from here i need to deal with the snub mount.

I am gonna play a little risky from a heat point of view. I have a pair of (i think) miltek sport cats that came from my r32 racecar. They are nice and compact. The easiest place to put them looks to be right off the manifolds and then sneaking above the axle and squeaking between the box and the floor. I will be making a robust heat shield on the drivers side as the body of the cat will be sitting ~50mm from the bottom of the steering rack and not far from the brake lines, not to mention the wiring harnesses. Oddly enough, unlike literally everything else about this swap, the passenger side presents no issues whatsoever......

                      It's tight....

got the snub mount done and while i have more work to do on the trans mount to fully stiffen it, i think it's all pretty decent now. now i gotta get back to where i was what, a month ago and finish up the rad support. i somehow have to put a secondary latch into the hood for the safety inspection. i sorta have an idea but who the heck knows if i can make it work. once that is done the engine will come out again and i will deal with the exhaust once and for all. that'll bring me to winter time most likely and i will do what i did last winter... sort the electrical. lets pray i don't change my mind on an engine again lol.

Rad support/hood release/ safety catch pretty much sorted. The bits look pretty rough tho so much grinding to be done. Everything is gonna come out again tomorrow and i will then finsh weld up the trans mount. maybe by next weekend i will finally be able to say the engine bay is done???? Waiting for a few more bits to get here before i can do the exhaust.

Subframe/trans mount this weekend, next week shift linkage?

took 10mins and finalized the fuel pump. Still waiting on exhaust stuff... the goal of finishing fqbrication by the end of november seems....possible???? Biggest question in my mind now is do i try to get it to run and then blow it all apart for paint or just trust i can get it running later.....

Got the subframe a lot stiffer today. So i tossed it in and went at the shift linkage. The stabilizer rod interferes with the tunnel a bit and i'll hafta bend it to clear, not a huge issue. The shift rod however....

                              20251101_145115.jpg 20251101_145227.jpg

Because i moved the gearbox back 25-30mm to get space up front, i've got a slight issue with the shaft now.... that's neutral but it still rubs so i can't even select a gate.....only gear i get is 4th i suppose....

So i am gonna hafta clearance there. Not a critical part of the structure AT ALL..... yikes....

A disappointingly large hole cut into the firewall to provide clearance for the shifter connection and all kinds of cuts and bends and welds into the shift rod and i can get all gears now. Shift rod contacts the tunnel to get 5/6 but that is due to flex and slop on the bushings/socket. I will have to get that tightened up with new bits.

Need to remove the drivetrain (again!!!) And get on with cleaning up and welding the hole. I think i am going to do 3 layers there. There are 2 in places and i feel i should really beef it up given the irregular shape in such a critical area. I'll take my time on it this week. Once done, FINALLY on to exhaust lol.

Also measured the propshaft ao i can get it shortened. Need to find a bearing tho as of course, the rubber is shot. U joint is in gerat shape though. I think it has been replaced at some point as it has a grease fitting in it, didn't think the factory believed in those?
