    That is bloody expensive Dan!

Well for £40, a new rear diff sounds like a great idea, that is ofcourse if I can secure one for that price. I have to say though, with all I have read I doubt I will be using a powerflex diff mount.

Edited to add - So thats what made the CD's jump then Dan?!

Urethane bushes are supposidly a big no-no so I will definatly be replacing mine with an OEM one.i

Expensive indeed - keep your eyes out for a decent 2nd hand one.
Definitely it's the powerflex bush that causes CD skipping at 1500rpm, that was a clear before and after behavior.

Yeah i have the powerflex on the car currently on the worn diff and its banging about all over the shop so i will test the fit once i have new prop and mounts on the diff and gearbox/engine mounts and sport Q snub and see how it is then. I mean if everything is not tight at that point it's never going to be

I'm pretty sure the centre prop bearing on mine is sha**ed, not least as now I have a faint burning rubber smell so might have to get the new kit bolted up earlier than i planned

          thats it, she's SORN'd

Off to collect the replacement transport...a 1998 Peugeot 306 1.6lx, used to have a 306 years ago before the S2 so will be fun to thrash for a couple of months, may even hang about if it proves to be reliable.

          wish me luck!

Well the car has been on axle stands for weeks now while I located a steering rack which I have (finally) a new ABY version to replace my worn servotronic one.

In the meantime, I've pulled all the wishbones off, undone the rear driveshaft bolts and those to the prop and today after getting my delivery from Vagparts, I can start to make some proper progress towards getting the car back on the road.

First job, change the rear brake flexi pipes for Goodridge hoses. For ref, here is the Goodridge part number in the pic

the pipes i took off were amazingly mushy, if your S2 is on original hoses I'd budget a replacement £29 a pair for the s/s lines btw.

Managed to discover the paintwork in the wheel arches the other weekend too

Those lines that you bought from goodridge are they just the rear ones or all round?

I'm trying to source a set that will work with 996 monoblocs as i've got rs2 hardlines but would prefer braided hoses for ease of changing discs/pads.

btw is there any advantage to using the hardlines?

If you want Goodridge line for the Porsche calipers, check with VAG Parts, I don't think they keep them in stock but they only takes a few days to make them up. They do the rears too, £29/pair front and rear.

Not had any problems in changing the discs with the rs2 hardlines, just need to be careful and support the caliper. I only have the s/s ones on the rear i bought new oem flexi pipes on the front when i did the porsche upgrade to connect to the hardlines.
