If you look directly under the dizzy there is the 13mm nut that holds the bracket on to hold the dizzy on mine still had the tamper bracket covering the nut right pain to get off.

saves you looking for the thread with the reference points for the timing in them. Good luck

OK just caught up with this.... well done mate!

Good to see you got that downpipe nut released, did you bend the spanner or find another intricate method?

Shame we couldn't get it that far on saturday, would have loved to say I helped however, I think I just came up with more things to cut/remove that didn't quite work and will be a PITA when it comes to getting her back on the road. Like the exhaust

Let me know when you plan on putting it back in, so I can turn my phone off

          Cheers

yeah that exhaust bracket has seen better days but a good reason to now head over to longlife and have it and the Y section sorted out

As for the 15mm nut on the down pipe, used the spanner and it was just so easy, one crank and it released. I only tried it in absolute frustration after being under the car for the best prt of 45mins on sunday morning f**king about with a hacksaw blake like a jail-breaker cutting through a window bar. My arms were on fire and the progress through the 3rd bolt was painfully sloooow

Anyway, you DID help thanks, appreciated it believe me

so things have moved on a bit since this time last week when i gave up trying to get the engine out

The rack is now out, all the power steering lines are at Pirtek being rebuilt, steering damper has been changed and 1/2cm thick powersteering fuild has been removed from the enginebay.

Getting the rack out is relatively easy, just fiddly as normal due to ease of access to some of the bolts. I'll create a how to on the rack incase others have to do it...

So now awaiting the return of the p/s lines to start the reinstallation of the engine, which incidently has had some tlc too. All the sensors have been renewed, blocks been treated to a degrease and repaint as has the engine mount arms

Now just need to get some of the pipework, fuel rail, subframes, struts etc powder coated and she should be back to looking her best

              Couple of pics.....

              One knackered servotronic rack out

              Hello drivers seat

New rack and rubber boot ready to install

Clamp installed and located over the pin

spent some time today cleaning the bay up a bit after fitting the rack up. Started off with AG Engine cleaner and then some t-cut to get through quite a bit of paint staining then some hard wax to finish. One of the problems with a light colour car is it really shows up marks and imperfections. Also a fair bit of rust appearing too in places so treated that with some hammerite.

Couple of things to do then next weekend the engine goes back in

Looking good under there, always a pain to clean areas with stuff like cables etc in the way.

Just boxed up and sent my injectors of to an ANSU service centre to get them flow tested and ultrasonically cleaned. Have to admit actually finding a service centre locally has proved to be a real pain, half the places only deal with diesel injectors and loads on the official ASNU website have folded or their kit doesnt work.

I used www.injectorcleaning.co.uk instead using their postal service. At £11.75inc each, its a bloody good price and they are an accredited ASNU service centre so you get a before and after report too

Was tinkering in the garage tonight and decided to see how the wastegate cap would look in silver......thoughts? Should it stay or should I powder coat it

Looks good to me!! Anodising would be better than powder coating but I'd save your pennies for more important stuff.
