needs to be powder coated as its not cured hard enough to get the stainless capheads to torque up without cutting through the paint/lacquer. Probably keep it silver though
New salve cylinder arrived today and a new dizzy cap too
@ Dubbedup...hmmm, this 'phase (don't tell my better half i said phase, she'll throttle me...) will be completed in a couple of weeks max. I'm hoping to have the engine ready to go back in the car this weekend but we'll see. Work is taking up some evening time again
Just collected my hoses from Pirtek - £144inc vat, which includes all hoses in the system and the y guy Mark who rebuilt them has done a great job. I now have adjustable angles on each of the high pressure hoses I can route them better, then crank them up to lock them. The slipjoints have been welded to the original banjo ends and even painted too. Took him about 6hrs to complete.
If anyone wants the complete parts list including their part numbers shout and I'll post it up. Considering one pipe i had priced up was £175+vat, thats an absolute bargain.
So, basic cost of the complete steering rebuild is as follows:
New ABY rack £260 - ebay
New pipes £144 - Pirtek
New seals, washers and banjo's £28 - Camberley Audi (with 15% reduction on their aligence programme for cars over 4yrs old)
I'll post some pics later...
Also had the injectors serviced and arrived back this morning, top service and quick turnaround. All been flow tested:

It was meant as a reference to Ross's car ever being finished
had a busy weekend with the aim of getting the engine back in.....just missed as the darkness came and it didn't make sense to start so hopefully tomorrow night if its dry.
Plenty of stuff done though, first issue, replace the slave cylinder as I threw a seal, pressing on the clutch pedal a £55 lesson learnt!
Anyway, with the engine out the way, change was a doddle
Here's the one that came out, no wear at all apart from on the nose but even that was not bad. Put it back together again but heres a pic of it 'exploded'
installed all the power steering lines fresh from pirtek and primed the rack, added the freshly repainted brackets and the steering arms
Also changed the cam cover gasket, power steering pump plug & seal and tried to salvage what remains of the oil cooler and bracket which was in a very sorry state...
Treated the engine to a bit more tlc, taking it from this
P.S. What did you do to the wastegate cap. It looks great too.

Actually, I didn't polish it :mischeif: I was going to do that , used a wire brush to get all the surface rubbish off and then went down the wet&dry route but it wasn't doing it for me. Kind of resigned myself to a grit blast when i came across some vht paint in Halfrauds.
Thought for £7.99 it had to be worth a try, results stunned me. It needs to cure properly with some heat but it sprays on real easy and initially gives a real mirror finish which is a bit too bling but once its gone off looks really nice.
As for the wastegate cap, some audi metallic two pack paint, though I might change that yet....close up the finish is not so uniform, but it looks great on the steering rack brackets
Heres a slightly more direct pic of the cam cover...
