once you compress the valve use small telescopic magnet to grab the collets

Yeah - you would if you could get it in there - but my bodged compressor didn't have enough room for that old trick... Taped a 22mm socket on the end to gimme the reach... I tried a 3078 tool first as that gave me access but it was too long and prevented sufficient leverage on the handle to actually compress the spring.
As I said in the 1st post - LOTS of foul language involved
BUt I got there
Just need Diesel Des to show up with his tool (steady) to finish the last two bendy inlets.

Well - its done now... I used a different socket/bodge on the VSC along with your idea of the magnetic stick. Got the last two bent boogers out with some patience
I missed a trick with the magnetic stick as it works great for removing the hydraulic lifters - man they are slippery. More photos to come.Paul Nugent

So - this is the new bodge - differnt socket (slightly less deep) and a lot less tape - now I can get the magnetic doobry in to extract the collets.Attached FilesPaul Nugent

QUick look at an IN port - need to take close ups of these with proper camera so you can see the gnarly cast marks.Attached FilesPaul Nugent

Next steps are the VSOS - tried one briefly and they are TAF with long pliers - apparently VAG puller 3047A is the weapon of choice but aint priced that up. Just need some beers and elbow grease maybe
Then I guess I should clean the worst crud of a set of valves, get the head cleaned up a little and off to the flowbench shop to measure its current performance in each port. Then I'll have them pressout the valve guides before returning the head for some careful DIY port grinding (aka the really scarey yet boring bit).
Oh I need to measure the head to double check I have enough metal for new valve seats - if I need them - will have to get a proper look - could be lucky and new valves will just lap in (another boring job).

LOL at that valve, what was the story there?
When i bent a valve in my 7A the valve seat was fine so i wouldn’t worry too much. Yours looks like they got bent by the piston and stopped. As opposed to being forced back into the head over and over at high revs so seat damage should be minimal.
I hate to say it Paul but that broken bearing cap could be a problem. AFAIK they are all fitted to the head and then drilled through. (rifle drilling i think it’s called) So in theory a cap from another head won’t fit properly. Having said that i have a couple of junk heads here you can rob a cap and stud from
Does look in good nick though, weird colour engine oil and all. Think it’s a late model having all the extra exhaust manifold studs.
And whats a VSOS? Having a brain fade moment
Mark.
