It felt seriously odd driving the S2 back last night, even stranger than when i picked it up after the first rebuild and i hadn't driven it for 9 months!

In comparison to the clio i used to drive around in the S2 always felt extremely refined and comfortable, but after driving around in a new BMW for the last few months the S2 now feels positively middle class

The new turbo has a distinct sound to it that i immediately noticed upon driving the car. I'd say it's quieter at low rpm than before, but there is a clear whistling noise coming from it through the exhaust when you put some power down at ~2krpm.

I didn't give the car too much power due to the latest rebuild and unfamiliarity with it, but in 6th gear it was doing 0.5bar at 3krpm, which rose quickly to 1bar at 3.2krpm, and at which point i dropped off the power as the thing felt like it was coming alive - a shame because a Merc C63 AMG looked like it wanted to have some fun whilst i was making my way home :mischeif:

Big thanks again to Will @ VRS and JP @ JNLRacing - both who have made the situation of having to get the car rebuilt again far less painful than it could have been, and have ensured i've ended up with an even better spec'd car at the end of it.

Will has also installed a Setrab oil cooler to the car, the new turbo (which i'll get specs for) and only yesterday fitted a new bambridge rear diff mount at short notice

I look forward to putting some more miles on the clock and getting it properly run-in. But most of all, it just feels good to have the old girl back in my hands

Great news! such a shame that this happened post other engine rebuild

Glad it's back on the road, what's the plan break it in and get it mapped soon? Should be quicker than your big brothers setup so i'm lead to believe...... oh I see a dyno war in your future

Yep get some miles on to the clock, then it's getting remapped end of July, and i already have a ring trip planned for August 17th.

I expect mine will be more powerful overall with the new turbo, the interesting thing will be turbo-lag, what with Ross's turbo having a smaller hot-side, but my car having the reverse inlet and rs2 exhaust cam. I would imagine Ross's will spool up quicker.

So, now it's running fine. Good power at low end, etc etc, right?
AFR's not too rich either anymore I presume.

Not given it much WOT, but i'll admit to seeing >1bar for a split second, so i know it's boosting

AFR's i haven't seen below ~13 even under power. All seems normal

                Ok, everything sounds on target.

Morale of the story, if you want a functioning car, have JP build the engine and Will everything else

Was just one of those things... can't change what happened, i just want to forget about it and have some fun with the car now

JP and Will have done a sterling job getting everything working again given the amount of damage that was caused to everything.

The big question is whether we get a couple of hours on a dyno to do that.
