        I didn’t take any pics of putting the pistons into the bores, didn’t like that job much . Here’s the bottom end assembled.

            Looking good old man!! I forgot to order new main bearing bolts for mine!! Also what torque have you used for the big ends bolts? I take it that was the block covered in fairy power spray in the first piccy?

              Seems a sin to hide those pistons and rods inside an engine, beautiful, love the bling block too

                      Tom,
                      I don't think you need new bolts for mains. I didn't replace 'em.

                          Silver engine cranck is a perfect idea. maybe I'll paint mine silver aswell while its still lying around.
                          Question! Do you have ARP bolts in your main bearing caps? Or are those bolts oem?

                          Cheers,

                            @Mark - Looking mighty fine...

                            I also hate installing pistons - its too long since I done it but I hate it - I might get one of those funky tapered piston ring compressors which allege to make the job easier.

                            One question though - what gaps are you running on the piston rings ?

                            Another question - are you retaining the stock oil return valve - its above the oil pressure senders in the block or getting the one for 'modified' engines that we spotted in the family album a while back ?

                            Finally - did you (or will you) dowel the manifolds onto the head so that they can matched with gaskets ? I'm just curious to know if there is a safe amount of material on the head to do that.

                              That valve is weird. It looks nothing like the original one and i cant see how it fits. Doug sent me one as he never used it. AFAIK Mark isnt using it either, Mark?

                                Tell me more about this "modified engines" valve! I've never heard before that there is more than 1 version.

                                Installing piston rings is a bit PIS even to normal block. I can't even imagine how hard it can be if the block is bored and honed using a stress plate so that there is no slope on the head level.
                                I used a tool when istalling pistons. It's a band that is to be wrapped around the piston so that the rings are in their grooves and then the piston is just pushed down in the block. It needed a bit of hammering (with the handle of course) and that was a bit exiciting
